Beautiful! You can make your own dichroic patterns by layering dichroic films (I bought mine on wish) then hitting them with a heat gun until they react. When using them I paint my core with black enamel, then use double sided sticky tape to get the film where I want it, mount them on a cup turner and apply then UV resin using a nail varnish brush. I never sand, sometimes I get a domed look, which is my favourite, sometimes it's flush, I don't do the sanding because basically I'm lazy lol it sounds like a lot of steps, but it's quick, thanks for a great video!

How much do you guys think it'll cost to do custom stainless steel rings? I'm looking for someone that can engrave them, if possible, for my brothers.

Not enough "o’s" in coooooooool to describe this new item. Already researching how I can find this by contacting John. I too use ALUMI UV. It can be tricky until you get the correct UV nm lights. Also, hard to keep out extraneous dust from the cured surface. Already sanded down or completely removed the Alumi because it looked too bumpy. Thanks for sharing and for your manual.

Haha poor John has been inundated with emails from ring makers. Hopefully he’ll make some available to buy soon.

What an amazing material this is, but frankly I couldn't find how to buy it. Especially on this side of the world (UK or EU).

Thank you! Yeah it was tricky for me too, I had to pester the guy for offcuts (they cost me a bit too). I’m gonna talk to some of the ring supply shops to see if they can stock it 👌🏽

About 3 million dollars worth of the stuff you got there haha. I bought a variety pack for $60 thinking I was getting sheets like you have here. I got 5 tiny little strips, I may can do 10 rings or so with it. Haha cool stuff, but definitely a bit pricy compared to what I thought.
@ArtfulElements3 жыл бұрын
I make films like this but definitely not $60. 3”x6.5”. His video is wonderful.
@suecollins32462 жыл бұрын
Here in South Africa those five strips will cost over R700. But if your strips aren't _too_ wide or too big you might get 4 rings from each strip.

What material is Dichrolam actually made of?
@ZebranoWoodCraft3 жыл бұрын
This is from Makersmaterialsupply.com: “Dichrolam is the highest tech, most optically complex, most visually dynamic and viewer interactive composite laminate in the world. It is what the gemstone opal would look like in sheet form. This material is comprised of over nine different polymer layers laminated in three separate proprietary lamination steps with a clear resin over the top. It has a metallic appearance and appears to change colors as you look at it from different angles. Although the Burls appear metallic, they have no metal in them. The reflectivity comes from the dichroic nature of the core film in which light wavelengths that are in phase with the tuned "stack" pass through and the wavelengths that are out of phase reflect back like polished metal.”

@@ZebranoWoodCraft Wow, this is a most complex material!!
