Finally making a color blocked dress with short sleeves that I can wear in summer! This time with black widow spider coffin-ish style lines for a gothic touch even in the summer heat. Isn't it Halloween prep season at this point after all?

First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Bianca Video BINGO: "yes I sew over my pins" is the free space.
@kirsten4211
@kirsten4211 2 жыл бұрын
Other spaces include: talking about kittens, excellent makeup, all-in-one sleeve wrap back tops in the intro/outro, blue patterning table of doom, using colored pencils to draw in dart legs, running out of cards, goth aesthetic, talking about lapped zippers, singer 99k cameo, serger cameo, colorful lights... Honestly would be a good drinking game. 🤔 Anyway as always I love your videos. What a great look. It was fun seeing you use the tulip sleeve in one of your designs.

That is so fabulous! As many other commenters have mentioned, it is so Startrek Next Gen. In fact i could see Janeway in that in one of the Chaotica episodes. Sorry, i’ll pack my nerd away now, lol! My baby girl (who is prob your age!) used to have a KZbin Chanel, the only part of the ‘set’ that was ever tidy was what was actually in frame. The rest if the ‘set’ looked like a tornado swept through. I hit a pin big time one day. It bent the pin into a zigzag and shattered the needle into 4 pieces. One stayed in the clamp. One pinged off, never to be seen again. The eye, still connected to the thread, went into a finger but i could remove it by pulling it out with the thread. The 4th piece absolutely buried itself into my finger. I ended up having to get it surgically removed. Ask me if that stopped me sewing over pins! 🤣

I wasn't allowed to really lean into the Victorian goth stage either as a teen and wish I had been able to. (Boo for school uniforms!) This dress is lovely and I love color blocking. As for the collar, I have done that so many times. Plan a CF seam and forget that when drafting a facing or plan for a button placket at back and then decide to do a collar cut on the fold. Ugh!

What a cool dress! At first glance, it looks like you're wearing a black blazer over a cranberry top. But then we see the sleeves, and the fit, and the red on the back as well, and we realize we're looking at a dress! I can totally picture you as a noir villainess with a pair of long black or red gloves, a hat with that bird netting veil on it, and one of those long cigarette holders (you know, just to add to the aesthetic). Delightfully dangerous.

My ADHD refused to let me continue learning to knit. It was the same for me: keeping track and counting, even with a counter or any other trick did not work. Now weaving, on the other hand, allows for more freeform, and therefore more forgiving, so I'm looking forward to finishing my first weave project.

Heck… I still have to lay the pieces out, and put chalk arrows, and balance marks that aren’t even balance marks - they just show me what seams go together. And sometimes letters. There’s definitely and advantage to mock up fabric with a clear right or wrong side.

Wow! What a great presentation of an intricate project! It so brings me back to watching my aunt and listening to her talk for hours. She was a teacher of children with special needs and those who simply came to school unready developmentally at a ratio of 1-45, she could keep children interested in anything! Her gentle speedy talk was her primary tool, and I adored as much listening as watching her sew. Well done, sweetie, and thank you for the fond memories.

Totally feel you on trying to keep cats from string or string-like objects! One of my cats had to undergo a very expensive emergency abdominal surgery because he managed to eat an unplugged (brick-free) 3 foot braided phone charger. We had no idea what he swallowed, and the xray just showed a large foreign body. The vet was absolutely flabbergasted when he cut it out. He actually saved it for his "somebody's pet ate this" wall of fame/shame. Apparently, cat's tongues have little hooks of some sort, and once they get caught on something like a braided cord, the cat has no choice but to keep swallowing until the thing is swallowed. So, anywho, just commiserating on cat safety with you!

What I've learned (thanks therapy!) is that all that cringing I do at past me just means I know better now. I've learned so much more. I've leveled up my skills. I was doing my best with what resources I had available to me. And it makes me excited to see where I end up going forward, and what things I'm currently doing, which I feel is my current best, but that will make me cringe down the road! 🖤

My sewing area is open to my cats unfortunately so i have to be really careful with threads. One of my cats in particular loves to chew on threads so i have to be extra careful with her. She's snuck up onto my table to chew through my machine threads several times so i can never leave it uncovered if I'm not in the room and once i left my tool box open and she stole a spool out of it to chew on. That looks wonderful! I love how all the curves sort of echo your curves! LOL it'd all be straight lines on my shape!! Maybe I need to play with colour blocking to give the illusion that I have curves! I completely understand the organized chaos thing. I generate clutter the way Pigpen in the Peanuts comic generated a dust cloud... I'm very good at organizing things but very bad at keeping things organized and somehow still know where almost everything is... cause I know what I was doing last time I used the thing I'm looking for so I know where to look for it! Personal triumph this week in the "don't get more fabric till you've used up more stash!" vein - I went to the fabric store and bought a zipper and thread and THAT WAS ALL!!! And I don't knit or cross-stitch for the same reason, cannot count while doing things... and I design my crochet projects around that inability. Also my hands refuse to learn to purl... I do have a question though, how does one decide whether to line or not, and what to line with? I don't currently line a lot of things but I also don't make a lot of fitted garments, and because I rarely wear a bra, I select fabrics for their lack of abrasiveness so a lot of what I wear is nice soft cotton or polarfleece, depending on the season.

Halloween prep season, it truly is! Bianca, my 14 yr old granddaughter is now hooked on watching your videos with me. So you see, the explanation of sewing over pins, how and why you are constructing the garments, as well as any explanation, is highly informative for all of us.💖 By the way, she prefers the patterns I have of the 1940s, 1950s, and some '70 styles. 😻 I love the color-blocking design, especially in black and red. Absolutely Stunning. Figure Flattering. Head-turning Gorgeous. 💖

The dress is beautiful, thanks for sharing your talent. I have a question about the 2-piece summer suit dress you made. When you were drafting the pattern for the jacket, I did not see you omit the 1/2 seam allowance on the bodice before you drew on the peplum. If you did and I missed that, I am sorry for asking, but if you did not remove the seam that maybe why the waist was tight in the mock-up. I finally after a lifetime of sewing made my bodice and skirt block and now, I understand why commercial patterns (and fast fashion) were such a bad fit. I am a combination of several sizes with narrow slanted shoulders, tall and a larger bust. Making clothes from my own pattern is going to be fun. Thanks again.

This is stunning. Absolutely awesome use of color blocking. I am not usually a fan the way I see it often used but this has created some lovely inspiration nuggets that are now inhabiting my brain. Also adore the contrast color as a lining color that can peak out occasionally. More inspo nuggets for the brain cave. Thank you for sharing. Loves everything about this one and learned a ton! (Didn't even know princess seams could route into a neckline before today!)
