The art of design and engineering reaches its epitome when you stop asking not, "what more can I add" but, "what more can I take away"? Simplicity is beautiful 🤙🏼 Aloha

Theres something about making and modifying your own tools that is more satisfying than any other aspect of the craft. At least in my opinion. Great job!

This is actually the only wooden plane I own. I found one in an antique store in the middle of nowhere Arkansas for $8. It’s from the 1860s as best as I can tell. Just needed a little bit of love. I don’t use it often. But when I need it, nothing is faster at the job. It would take more time to set up a table saw than pull it out of the box and knock out some grooves. Unless I was doing like mass production… which I don’t. I could tell how to hold it just based on the wear and dark spots on the wood. That was pretty cool.

Just received my kit as well as the pinch rods, chamfer plane kit, and I couldn’t be more pumped to try this one out!

nice job mate, quite cool to see a tool project be made to help make other projects

The alternative to a grooving plane is a router table. It takes space, it makes noise, it spews dust and spits chips, and it eats fingers very messily. The silence in your video speaks volumes in favor of doing things the quiet way.

Well, that except for the dad jokes, of course.

Nice kit, James. Worthwhile even though I just picked up the 45? No need to set anything up for doing box bottoms?

I've watched your video's every Saturday morning for years, Thank you! Question, what is "ASMR"?
@WoodByWright4 ай бұрын
It is a type of recording that focuses on low amplitude high focus frequencies. The channel isn't quite ASMR but it is to separate it from the other channel that is "how to" so if there is a video on this channel there is also one on the other channel that has all of the talking and how to information. Where is this channel is just no talking.

That can be about anything you want but historically 45° is where the bed of the plane is.

Now do the tongue plane.

I did a video on that years ago. I thought about creating a kit for that but the iron would be far more complicated and would more than double the price of the kit.
