@@Wal48 have found most of the materials on Amazon honestly. The thread, well there are two kinds. One is a thicker linen thread called Lineco Bookbinding linen thread. Then there is Bookbinding Linen Thread 35/3. It’s thinner, I am using that. I like it a lot. The paper itself is a different story. To do the size he does, yes, I would like to know the dimensions he uses and folds to as well. But one has to figure out what size they want to end up with first to know what larger size to buy. I agree. There are paper companies that sell in bulk so that’s no good for me. I bought 8 1/4”x 11 11/16 which is 8”x11” paper. My measuring show 5 13/16 “x 8 5/16” approximately, once folded in half. That gives you the space to make an A5 size journal which is about 5.83 “x 8.3 “ when folded and complete. My paper of chose is called Tomoe River paper, loose leaf from Jet Pens online. But they have a great paper called Jet Pens View Corona that I will be using because some other company, Sanzen, bought out Tomoe River and the paper is still good but not like OG Tomoe River. That’s me talking about good writing paper for inks, and fountain pen inks. But you can choose any paper you like and buy for what you want to use it for. So if you want it for sketching you buy sketch paper at the weight you like it. Or watercolor paper, etc. Buy any 8”x11” paper of your choice. And fold it in half. That’s what I do. The glue, Lineco PVA Adhesive-acid free on Amazon as well. The netting is called SUPER also on Amazon. The linen “Tape” on Amazon but I could only find 1cm/ 0.39 inch there. It still works. And that’s all I have for now. Haven’t decided what to do about the binding yet. I may go with soft cover so I haven’t bought it yet. Doing my research. I hope this helps you and others. All on Amazon except the paper. Take care. Cheers Edited for additional information I left out that I found is vital. Cheers

good evening! at first I wanna say that your work is inspiring for me, and your videos helps me a lot. I recently discovered that I have some problems with attaching the case to the text block, i always get my 3mm at the top and the tail of the book but not in the left part. I think that my problem is that I use a 250gr cardboard to make the part of the spine in the case. What cardboard did you use in the min 3:35. Cause when I check the case ,before glue any cover material, with the block everything fits perfect. Thanks for your help! :)

Wow your work is outstanding, I cannot picture myself doing half of what you've done, the patience needed to make such masterpiece largely exceed what I can provide! For the spine I use acid-free/archival PVA glue, while in other areas of the binding I use the same PVA that is mixed roughly 50/50 with methyl cellulose glue. The methylcel give some extra working time and makes the PVA a little more forgiving. Thanks for watching!

Hi! I'm trying to construct this sort of book as my first proper project, since I don't have the tools (or skills, come to that...) required for backing a spine yet! Would it be possible to ask what sort of card you are using for the spine at 5:40? I can't see anything designed specifically for it at Hewitts. I gather it should be thinner than the greyboard so it can bend round the rounded spine, but I'm not sure how thin to go! Do you think card meant for Belmont Hollows at 225gsm would be ok?
@FourKeysBookArts
@FourKeysBookArts 3 жыл бұрын
That piece came from my offcut bin so its precise characteristics are a mystery, but I would say that the 225gsm card you have should be fine. The piece acts as a stiffener, so should have some strength, but also a little flex. The most important factor, whatever you use, is that the grain be oriented from head to tail. Thanks for the great question!
