Your work is gorgeous! I find your thoughts about instant gratification very interesting. I’m a conservator for art and used to do a lot of repetitive tasks for hours and days. I valued that time when my thoughts were allowed to wander. We don’t constantly need input from the outside to make us feel we use the time more effective. If it got lonely I talked with my colleague and good friend while working on a big piece. I feel I need a balance of both. I wish you lots of creative energy and that you find your own way that makes you happy.

Your finished rug is beautiful. I am weaving a small kilim on my tapestry loom at the moment and have included a small band of krokbragd which has inspired me to take this further and invest in a 4 shaft horizontal loom. Must say I enjoy the silence too and have been having similar thoughts about how the media is destroying imagination and the creative process. Two questions - what is the green implement for. Is it to ensure the lines are straight? and How wide is the rug and loom?

Hi Cindy, thank you! The green tool is called a temple, it helps keep the weaving width consistent/prevents draw-in. It also helps keep everything straight so that the reed doesn't rub against any threads. Temples have teeth on either end that dig into your weaving. The one I use is from Toika and it has slanted teeth that are good for thicker projects like rugs, but might damage more delicate pieces. You can also get wooden ones but I've personally never used one. The loom has a weaving width of 45 inches, and this rug is about 30 inches wide. Good luck with all your projects! :)

Fantastic work. But how do you do Krokbragd on a 4 shaft counterbalance loom? Can you give us info on your weaving draft, treading and tie ups, please? Thank you

Hello Didier, thank you! So for this project I only used 3 shafts, and ignored the 4th shaft. The threading is 1,2,3,2. Since I have counterbalance, my tie up is just 1, 2, 3, and so is the treadling. On a jack loom I think the tie up would be 2 & 3, 1 & 3, 1 & 2. Hope that helps!

Hi, yes l love your work... just wondering what type,brand & cost is your Loom? I'm thinking about buying one but not sure about the quality of the ones lve seen? I live in Australia, Melbourne so any helpful tips on choosing the right Loom would be great! Thanks Jackie

Hello, thank you! There are pros and cons to different loom types and it really depends on your goals and what you want to make :) This page might help you choose- woolery.com/tips-on-selecting-a-loom/ I have a Leclerc Loom, and I got it secondhand for about 900 Canadian, with tools and bench included. I made sure to buy from someone who had been weaving on it, so they knew it was in working order. The cost new is very expensive so I think secondhand is a great option. I looked for something with a very sturdy frame and a heavy beater. My loom is a counterbalance loom, which can be really great for rugs because it allows for high tension warping. Depending on what you want to make, you might have different criteria. Hope that helps!

How do you change weft colors with such an open warp?

Hello, thanks for your comment :) I'm not sure I understand the question, but the warp is changed as normal. When I switch colors I do un-ply the end of the yarn I'm not using anymore so that it tapers into the weaving and doesn't create a bunch of bulk near the selvedges. Hope that helps, thanks :)
