Thank you for putting this together, I’m looking to create a version of this myself to help roll over gravel. The only thing I wish you would have added was either in the video or the description to tell what materials you were using… like what diameter tire, what thickness of steel, what pipe was used for the axle, etc. Thank you again though, great video and great welds!

Glad you pointed out the weld spatter shadows. I might have missed them. You have an artists eye.

They’re the best looking welds I’ve seen from anyone. Nice job!

First, thank you for the kind words. Second, you must not watch many welding videos if these are the best you've seen. hahahaha. Thank you for watching!

This is just what I wanted thanks. But I'm using a smaller inflatable wheel, a 4 inch trolley wheel, but the bracket is much the same as what I had in my mind. But wow, please use goggles when cutting and grinding metal with an angle grinder. My dad had a tiny splinter of metal go in his eye and it needed a small operation and drops inserted for weeks after. Value your eyes.

Similar thing happened to my Dad. I'm wearing the wrap around safety glasses, almost invisible at a glace but they are there.

@@TandaMadison ah ok sorry. Yeah I couldn't see any goggles so thought you didn't have any on.

Hello Tanda, congrats on this video breaking 20k views! And heck yes, I recognize some Tool there at the end!!

Hey Thanks.It has to be the title. Must be lots of folks out there looking for a gate wheel! Yes, long time Tool fan. Must be something about Maynard's voice too because APC and Puscifer are favorites here in the shop as well.

I'm making it for someone with a 16' gate that rolls over driveway/pasture so the little wheels just dig in.

Is that a Harbor Freight grinder? I find some of their tools work well. My auto darkening helmet is from there too.
@TandaMadison7 жыл бұрын
Yes, sometimes I wish it would break so I can justify something lighter! ha ha. Actually the retainer for the button, that locks the spindle for changing disks, broke and the button fell out. I considered a new one but then realized one of my biggest gripes with this grinder was how stiff the spring is under this lock button (makes holding it in with one hand and using a spanner a pain). Alas, it's much easier now that I can just put the button in without the spring. I'll probably use it until it croaks. My auto darkening hood is an inexpensive one from Amazon and it seemed fine until I used the new Lincoln helmet with the 4C technology lens at Workbench Con last week. Now I have hood envy!

how will that roll over uneven ground better than a similarly sized wheel ?
@TandaMadison2 жыл бұрын
It’s the combination of larger diameter and wider wheel that helps with the rock and gravel. I think they found some wheels almost this big in diameter but they were very narrow and just cut into the rock and gravel under their gate and got stuck.

You left out putting it on the gate so we could actually see it at work

TandaMadison Thank you for responding . I’m having difficulty with my new tube gate . I installed a gate wheel for it , didn’t last more than a month it needs to be able to swivel . Any ideas ? And thanks for responding your awesome

@@fallenls07 This was made for a long gate that was over dirt and gravel so they had the same problem with off-the-shelf wheels. Some pipe sizes make a pretty inexpensive bearing if it needs to swivel. So, how to make this using $$ tools and welder instead of buying $ mount and wheel. Great project if you have all the tools and experience shown but not quite a DYI for the average joe
@TandaMadison5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is true maybe. They wanted a big wide tire to roll on uneven ground and gravel and couldn't find one at any price they liked. As tools go a Harbor Freight grinder and my little Lincoln welder aren't too costly and are both supper useful tools.

The point of the video wasn’t a save money by DIY, it was how to build something that isn’t mass produced for purchase.
