My aim is to have 8 chicks and then they can all roam free. Dragon and Phoenix are precious and have to be protected from everything at the moment because if one of them gets eaten by a snake (we have many here) there goes our chicken family plans.

Great job on the coop, it really looks super nice and all the considerations for cleaning and egg collection. I've also started keeping chickens with my family a year ago and they are very cute intelligent creatures. We really learnt a lot from keeping them, the eggs are a bonus!

EggCellent!!!! It sounds as if Dragon and Pheonix have a big responsibility to the chicken world. Many years ago I had a rooster given to me by a vegetarian lady who could not kill it., One of the next store neighbour's hens ( Henrietta) fell in love with Henry the rooster and ran away from home and founded a dynasty by raising 14 chickens in the bushes. We were suddenly in the poultry business. Before we knew it we where the proud owners of over 75 different types of chickens , ducks, peafowl and, turkeys most of them misfits from other people. they all lived free range and happily together on our farm. We hardly eat any eggs, so I used to sell the eggs at the school were I worked. It all became a bit too much, so we stop them breeding. Now I only have Peafowl and One duck who comes in for breakfast, Good luck and Cheers, Muffy from Oz (Australia)
