Making a Hovercraft

This video shows our progress as we made our hovercraft. This is the hovercraft made by the Engineering class at Nashwauk-Keewatin High School. Thank you for all the good comments I have been receiving!

How did you make the skirts and what material did you use?

We actually ordered all the skirts from a business called 'Slipstream Hovercraft'.

They are made out of nylon, and is covered in urethane for water-proofing.
What kind of machinery did you use for this?
We have a wide variety of tools to use in our shop. In the process of making this hovercraft we have used Band saws, CNC Router, Table saw, Chop saw, Panel saw, and Various drills and handheld saws.
Our school gets grants for the machinery we have, and it is very well used. I personally love our shop. Our metals shop has a Water Jet (Machine that uses water to cut metal), and we have one of the best shops in the state.

Skid plate " brakes" might be a good idea.. add polyfoam floatation, seat cushion / floatation devices. If it looses power over water , you want positive floatation , lifejackets,oars , lights, two-way radio..

Nice job guys! Some questions: Why did you dump the exhaust overboard instead of just letting the fan suck it out the back? Also, what horsepower was the motor?

If you are engineers, you start with power and figure out what HP yopu need to rsais e this weight. How much dose you mock up weigh? What will be the center of gravity? Geeeeeez
