If you spritz the resin with alcohol after you've finished pouring it pops a lot of those tiny bubbles that form on the surface. I heard that from another artist and it works wonders. If you come back like 5 mins after the first spritzing and do it again cause more will form eventually it makes the pieces as smooth as glass.

I've used alcohol to pop bubbles. I prefer using a heat gun or lighter first and then coming back a few minutes later to spritz with alcohol.

I just came across this as there are some molds on sale on amazon and I wanted to see how well they work. I usually make my own molds. Thanks for the video. Here are some ways to reduce air bubbles. Use a resin that has a 20-30min working time. For any of the methods that use an oven or heater: Obviously this is going to be hot when you take it out so use oven gloves or something. Let it cool for 2-3 hours before demold. When you pour you want a very thin stream of resin and you want to pour from 6-12 inches above the mold. This also will remove and not introduce new air bubbles. 1. Cheapest Way: Get a back massager like a pillow one etc that you can put under something flat and fix it so it wont fall over. Once the resin is in the mold put it on the vibration station for 5-10min and this will help get the air bubbles out. 2. Second Cheapest Way: Mix and pres all your resins. Heat guns do not work great unless you get an expensive one or use a propane chef's torch. Better yet, you can get a cheap toaster oven and have it pre-heated to 450deg. 10min is the most you want to leave it in there as the heat over that much time accelerates the curing process. Also never use it for for or anything such as food after you use it for resin. 3. Best Cheap Method: Mix your resins, put them in a vacuum chamber to remove the air bubbles. Be aware the resin will expand to about 2/3 to double in size so make sure your container has space. That's the air expanding and eventually coming to the top. When it does the resin will collapse back down to normal volume. If you want even better results you can look at most resins and they will have a cure temperature or post cure temperature, set a toaster oven to that temp and let it cure in the oven. 4. The Absolute Best Method: Follow method 3 but do not put in the oven. Instead put into a resin casting pressure pot. You want one that can sustain a constant pressure of 60psi. The ones from California Are are very good and as long as you get one for casting, on only need a compressor and hose. Their compressors are great too. I've gotten a few other brand pressure pots and almost always have to seal leaks with Blue 242, or buy extra parts. You want to keep it under pressure for the maximum cure time plus 20%. If you can find a heater for the pressure pot(the usually wrap around the outside) that can get to the cure temperature that is even better. If you do, Leave it in there for the full cure time, plus the post cure time if given on the resin. If not, just double the cure time. If you cant find a heater for the pressure pot, leave it in for the cure time+20% then put it in the oven at the cure temp for the post cure time or the time you left it in the pressure pot.

I keep this jar in my craft room, which can get up to 80 degrees in the summer time. I haven't had the lid become stuck yet, but haven't tested it in higher temps.

You can put a very thin layer of Vaseline in the grooves of the lid, to prevent it from sticking to the jar.

I love the color! Turned out good. Do you make vase's like that?

Thank you! I don't have a mold for a vase, so wouldn't be able to make a vase yet. I'll let you know if I find a mold for one.

Hi, I'm Lisa , question how do get the bubbles out of the bottom. Omg❤. Pls tell me how?
@craftyjenabug Жыл бұрын
Slow pouring and spraying with rubbing alcohol are the best ways I've found to prevent and remove bubbles. Hope that helps!

Please help, my resin pour hasn't cured properly and is still sticky. How do I clean up this mould with it? It doesn't come out.
@craftyjenabug Жыл бұрын
Oh no! It may not have been mixed properly. As for cleaning the mold, you could try freezing the mold for a while. It may allow you to remove by hand. Baby wipes can be useful for cleaning small amounts of sticky, uncured resin. Or you could remove as much uncured resin as you can, then apply some more resin, let that cure, and hopefully it will remove the uncured resin. I hope that helps!

Make a jar with lid out of resin
@dorothycaridine62462 жыл бұрын
I would just spray with alcohol
@craftyjenabug2 жыл бұрын
I will try that in the future. The issue with this mold is the bubbles form under the rim so they don't come to the surface where they can easily be popped. I'll be experimenting with getting rid of these bubbles and will share my results in a future video.
