Kindling Cracker Plans: www.etsy.com/de/listing/16329...
So I have a new toy in the workshop. Of course I had to try it out straight away. Not only is it a CNC plasma cutter, it can also be used for milling. I'll try that too... A huge thank you to ‪@stepcraftgermany‬ for their trust and I'm looking forward to further projects. There are many types of wood splitters / kindling cracker like this. With this one I specifically tried to set it apart from other designs. If anyone has ever done this with the tension straps, please let me know. Works perfectly and you can purchase the DXF in my ETSY shop and support me.
My first Kindling Cracker: • Kindling Cracker Wood ...
If you have any ideas about what else you can build with a CNC plasma cutter, feel free to write them in the comments.

That was great, might as well take it to the next level and engineer a log splitter.

Love the design. Man, I'm making one. But not until spring; no welding until then! I've hatcheted for this long, so what's another couple of months?

Tolle Arbeit! Hatte schon Angst, dass du das Teil tatsächlich an den Baum schraubst. Dann sind zum Glück die Spanngurte gekommen, 😅

I'm glad you're selling the plans, but what about the people that don't own a plasma table, is there a way you would sell it as a kit or whole item?

maybe if you mounted it up-side down, and use your hip to push, it wouldn't be so much of a finger trap...

How difficult would it be to generate a copy of the plans using 0.250 material instead of 6mm for us non-metric countries? Even though the tabs could be ground down to fit the 6mm slots, I think the accumulated clearances could be an issue. I purchased a copy of the plans to support the channel.

Лезвие слишком толстое, из 3 полос, видно большое усилие, чтобы расколоть чурку. Одна бы спокойно справилась. У моего 6 мм, колет всё подряд.

if you are using a plasma or water jet to cut it out its hardly DIY

Even though one can make one of these without the $20k-100k plasma table, I came down to say the same thing. 😂 However, I do know a few people who have things like that in their garage but work in an entirely unrelated industry. Annoyingly, doing it by yourself and for yourself qualifies as DIY, regardless of the equipment you use. Thus, a lot of DIY projects leave us non-millionares out. 🙄 And this goes for those magazine articles. I remember seeing a DIY helicopter in Popular Science or Popular Mechanics many years ago that required a full machine shop and a minimum six foot autoclave. As mentioned, I have known a few people with their own full machine shop, however, I have NEVER EVEN HEARD of someone with their own autoclave larger than a couple feet on a side.

@@taitano12 good point ...I am a blacksmith and I don't consider anything I make to be DIY because it's taken so much time to learn the skills necessary . You can't throw money at it and have it work out...I can however make a kindling splitter with a hacksaw and hand drill and a ball pien hammer ...that's DIY
@taitano12
@taitano12 4 ай бұрын
@@TalRohan Yeah, same here. I don't consider my 3D printed stuff DIY, even though it TECHNICALLY is. To me, DIY means do it YOURSELF, not have some machines do it for you. There are a lot of tools that we make, from bellows and spring fullers to power hammers and lathes that make the Y smaller, but there is a threshold where it goes away completely. The threshold is subjective, but the CNC-PC is one of those machines that rides a little too close to the threshold for me to call actual DIY. Even blacksmithing, as you said, leaves the DIY field at some point. My 3D printer is DIY because I made it myself, but I don't consider the stuff it prints DIY - even the stuff I take the time to design from scratch.

To those who complain about the plasma table: Draw it out on a piece of scrap steel and cut it with an angle grinder. Same results. The slots are the only part that would take more effort to chain drill the holes and file out the oval. This is a fantastically simple idea that any of us can copy and cobble together with minimal tools and minimal skills (I've got those). The Metalist brings it to the level of Art, and does a great job in the process.

@@CA_Rock Yup. They're not that hard to make, even without simple blacksmith tools and skills. I definitely enjoyed the video, but I think it's a little disingenuous and amusingly bemusing when something is called DIY but made with tools that cost as much as a car. You really only need a hacksaw, drill and grinder to make this out of a piece of channel steel and flat bar. That's what I expected to see, but got the ASMR of watching a CNC plasma cutter instead. Still fun to watch. 🙂
