It's difficult for me to not think of the many penitentiary inmates who's similar but much cruder efforts have been confiscated. The "shiv" makers of that reality will no doubt, remain in awe of your extensive abilities in the transformation of simple steel wrench into a thing of true beauty. drilling without a vice is dangerous, but drilling a knife without a vice is extreme xD

It wouldn't have taken much effort to clamp the blade down while drilling. I've made that error before and I was lucky I still have all my fingers.

Did you temper the blade off camera ? Heat treat without temper makes the blade brittle. Btw, wrenches are already heat treated and tempered, if you work carefully and not ruin the temper, you wouldn't have to harden it afterwards.

He was using very aggressive paper on the original grinds. I doubt the wrench would have kept its heat treat. Re-doing the heat treat and temper was the correct decision.

I'm confused. I have seen so many episodes on Forged in Fire which shows these smiths taking a billet, forging it and hammering it until it takes on the shape of what they plan to make. What's wrong with what you did, where you use the basic shape of the "billet "- the wrench and refine it to the shape into a knife. Why all the struggling with forging and hammering???? Also, I guess that the wrench was already forged, so why did you do it again?

There are two types of ways to create a knife. Forging with an anvil, and then stock removal. It seems to me that a lot of people choose stock removal because they can't/don't want to spend a ton of money on anvils and the forge and all of that, especially if their garage or shop is very limited.
