Hi Josh, sorry for your loss, you are not using your grandfather's death you are honouring it with building him a resting place. Total respect. The use of Kumiko in the urn is beautiful and I hope your grandmother loved the finished urn. Well done Josh

Sorry for your loss. However, this is a beautiful tribute that I am sure your grandfather would be proud to know he would be resting in. Prayers for peace and warm memories instead of concentrating on the loss for you and you family. I have lost all my grandparents now and know what it feels like. Just hold on to the good times when the feelings of loss or missing him/them hit you hardest. It helps. It really is a beautiful box. Well done.

I agree with Avraham. This was a difficult and intricate design. I think that you did a great job. It is attractive as pictured in the final picture, but I'm sure that you will continue to perfect your Kumiko designs and building technique. Thanks for sharing this design with us.

First off, my condolences. Second, I had watched this video without sound so I didn’t realize it’s purpose until I read after. During the video I kept thinking “wow what patience and discipline it would take to finish a project like that”. Understanding what it’s for, it makes it very clear. Beautiful work

Josh, I don't want you thinking I am some creepy old woman, but I respect your work, I am 48 and live in South Africa. I only started with woodworking about 3 years ago and I still have so much to learn, I'vehad zero firmal training, only youtube. I really admire your talent and creativity and boy oh boy you can teach us all a thing about how not to waste wood. Great job, keep it up and stay safe.

It is an incredible box, your Kumiko is outstanding. I am very sorry for your loss and honoring him this was is impressive, way to go. That said, you had me wincing a few times while you were routing out the rabbets and crosscutting with a fence. Please understand this isn't said with anything other than a genuine concern for your safety: Crosscutting with a fence is a huge kickback risk, and can end your woodworking career pretty quick. Again, fantastic work, keep it up!

Josh, I very recently subscribed and I love your work and your videos. I am sure your grandpa was very proud of you. The box is gorgeous and I'll bet your grandma loves it and appreciates the thought and the work that went into it. I want to mention that my ex-husband (a very experienced woodworker)was routing a piece of trim with his fingers in front of the bit when the bit grabbed the wood and pulled his fingers into the bit. Before he realized what happened, he lost two fingers and most of two more. Please don't cut toward your fingers. Find a different way to hold the workpiece down. I'm sorry if I am speaking out of turn and I know that you are a very good woodworker with experience with your tools, but I worry. :\

Wait a minute how do you still have all of your fingers using a Harbor Freight Central Electric power tool? Everyone online says that they would never use any tool from HF that could hurt you because they are built so poorly that you have to use something like Milwaukee, DeWalt or Makita. Yes I’m being sarcastic, I had the same miter saw as you before I upgraded it ran it hard trouble free.
