I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. It really helps a hobbyist like myself that wants to do the best job possible with no intentions of starting a business.

You are right about sharing the knowledge. I am always willing to show people how I create my leatherwork and most people just say that it is too time consuming and fiddly for them. Also most people don't understand how much time needs to go into a quality product. Great design on the hybrid sheath.

With regard to other sheath makers objecting to giving away "secrets of the trade," I would suggest that many, many knife enthusiasts do not have the time nor inclination to become a sheath (leather or kydex) making hobbyist. The evidence is shown in the long waiting times that a customer has to endure to get a kydex sheath. I just purchased a kydex sheath (I won't mention the maker because he got my order wrong), and I had to wait 2 months to get my order filled. So, regardless of the many, many KZbin videos showing how to make kydex sheaths, there is obviously a ton of work for the professionals. And, the cost of equipment to become a hobbyist is pretty steep. And, here is the kicker, a new "hobbyist" will not turn out a product that looks nearly as good as what professionals like you produce. My last comment, is that anybody that wants to take a stock knife and "trick it out" with scales and liners and blade re-profiling and a custom sheath (leather or kydex) is a little bit of a knife snob (me included) and doesn't want a blemished, home-made sheath. The are many brilliant professionals out there such as you who are innovative and perfectionists and they don't need to worry about giving away secrets to people who will never invest the time or money to become proficient. What did your very first kydex sheaths look like? I look at your KZbin videos as showcases of your talent and inducements to buy your products, not inducements to do it myself.

great to watch brother. i appreciate the time and effort you put in to it and you showing the process. i wear my supertool everyday and important tool in my life and my job i once broke a flipped car window with my tool and pulled a guy out. i have also lost 2 already due to the stock sheaths. i will know that it will be secure now and know i can trust it because of your hands. i will make sure to do a video on it and let people know. thanks brother again cant wait till it comes god bless 👍

Personally, I would rather support those guys I respect. I don't mind spending a little cash to get something done right by a professional. I will mention Mr. Wolf, lol, it surprises me how much and how many I see waste their sheet leather. Is there a reason you don't move your template all the way to the edged of the leather to allow you to better utilize it for another project? Please teach me sir! lol
@grierwolfe8 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I do. Other times I don't, it just depends on what the underside of the leather looks like. I really try to avoid any spots that might cause me problems. So if you ever see me move the template away from the outside of the material or rather the edge that is what I'm doing.

I agree, share. (unless it is a new developed industrial secret) besides, some people just like to see and know how it is made. Paper templates is also easy to correct, you can always scan them and store them on a computer or something and if you need it again you can print it out, Al though sizes might be different then. I know kydex isn't exactly bulletproof but how strong is it? any tests planed on it? Thank you for sharing. :-) (Any news about Larry?)
