I bought me a citrus tree 3 months ago and had to adjust the roots. I gave it a root trim by getting rid of the unwanted crossing roots and kept all its radial, as well as a good pruning to the foliage tips. 3 months later and it has new shoots. I think it’s safe to say that it was a success. Thanks for the content! Great job!

Seems like a similar job to what I've done myself! Glad to hear it lived through it :)

@@EuanEllery Very! Though I will admit I’n new to the root pruning. It still scares me as to how far I can do without killing the tree (Not that I’m trying to kill it). Just want to know the bare maximum without passing that line.

@@mikeycityify Very valid fear - so many variables to consider with it

Can you tell me why would you wish to keep your roots radial. How does that help in bonsai
@mikeycityify3 жыл бұрын
@@bodhisattva6308 From what I learned, it gives the tree a good balance when planting, as well as a good balance of energy flow to the branches. Nebari is a very important thing in bonsai. The roots that shows on the surface is part of the whole bonsai aesthetic, so having a well even spread of roots is important.

I have a small lime tree that I could prolly prune into a bonsai. That would be amazing as I have no idea what to do with it otherwise! It was a gift. I raise succulents. I put it in a spare terra cottab pot with some commercial citrus soil. It's doing OK, but it's too tall for the indoor greenhouse, and I don't need a plant that will get too huge. I have an Elephant Bush that I'm going to train into a bonsai as it gets bigger, but now that I know I can do this to that tree, it's going to be done this spring! I love this so much! You prolly saved this tree from being rehomed! Lol!

So cool! 🙂 Interesting ive seen cannabis bonsais but I didn't know you could make bonsai's out of this that broaden my option's since its hard to find quality nursery traditional bonsai species.

Hahahah I was joking about cannabis bonsai to a mate the other day. But yeah pretty hard to get the good bonsai species sometimes, but you can get some pretty good other species for it :)
