I like those steel ferrules for the handle that they make from sheet metal (oil drum lids or the like), then brass braze the seam together with scraps of brass over the forge fire. I watched a Thai blacksmith do that 40+ years ago. Nowadays they can find scraps of welded electrical conduit to make them.
