Making a Marking Knife for fine woodwork

I wanted one of Matt Estlea's marking knifes but with a handle I made, so here is the making process. Matt very kindly sold me a brass ferule and gave me the freedom to make the handle. Many thanks Matt.

This blade allows easy marking of wood, especially fine dovetails pins. For fine furniture making, knife marks are so much more accurate than pencil marks. There is no point cutting accurately if your markings aren't accurate.

Great video looks ace i noticed you cut the joint very differently to most cutting it square then planing it square on a 45degree angle what dimensions did you use for this joint? Ive cut mine 3 times now and the dovetails arent coming out even? Cheers

Thank you for your help I'm putting together a marking knife like this dimensions for starting pieces of wood and dove tail sizes would be great I can start to work out what works for different size joints then. Cheerd

Enjoyed this, found you whilst searching on Matt’s marking knife. Could be a project when I get a lathe, top of the list is the one you have! Quick question, who is the music by? Like the track at the beginning!!

Hi there. I'm Glad you enjoyed it. The lathe is still one of my favourite machines, the only thing I want to change is to add a mobile on/off switch to aid access when turning large projects. I've just updated the details in the video and have added the music details. Next video isn't too far off now. Project is finished, just need to edit it now. Thanks for watching.
