The excitement I felt when I saw all the egg crate looking things come into the office at work when they brought them in to begin switching out new computers . Do I need them? Nope. Did I ask for them? Yep.

I had good belly laughs each time Lotus "redecorated" the sand pit after you sifted the sand. Loved watching Lotus turning upside down trying to get the seeds in the tube. Most of my hamsters have ignored the toilet roll tubes; just not puzzle hamsters, but a few in the past liked them. I bought a Timothy hay mat and cut it in half to give each of my current hamsters. They like to chew it up trying to get the seeds or lab blocks out. Putting curly shredded paper as a top layer of a dig box and then sprinkling seeds throughout works for my hamsters too.

My hammy is sooooo not very interested in puzzles. He’s like mmmmm nope that’s too much like work, not my thing. 😂
@Crows_DenАй бұрын
Had a hammy like this once! Little guy hated all toys (and also all people) but looooooved chews and would actively cart one around with him everywhere? He was a sweet lil guy under all the weird, and eventually got hand tame enough that all he wanted was to sit politely in my hand with his chew while I walked around. You'd go to set him down, and he'd try to climb right back into your palm!
@katiecraig2476Ай бұрын
@ awwwww . My floof has only been home about 3 weeks. He’s expectant of treats, but won’t yet take them from my palm. 😂 if I try that, he proceeds to bite me instead. We’re working on that. lol. He allows petting but so far that’s it.

Lotus really said "No I like bedding in my sand, it's part of my aesthetic. Also yes I agree with the hoarding. My mom came over and saw my huge stack of egg cartons....I said yea those are for the chincilla it's part of his chew toys and he likes eating pellets out of it. She gave me such a weird look lol.

Update for you: tried the chew tunnels AND the hay box with treats inside mixed in. Mind you, I loaded the seed treats in that hay box. My floof picked at the seeds closest to the outside of the tunnel and waddled away. And only pulled at and picked at what seeds were easily accessible in the hay. And proceeded to turn and glare at me like “You’re kidding, right?” 😂🤦🏼♀️ what do you do to encourage a lazy hammy? This heifer will NOT go after anything that requires much effort! 😂

I'm an absolute nerd for formal species names 😂💛
@cakeeeetimeАй бұрын
@@SomethingAnimal I keep fish and it became a habit, because they (in most cases) have only one formal name, but a bazillion common names. And I love how sometimes they sound very fancy and after translation it's something like 'big head' or just the latin-fied named of the person naming the species.

Here in Poland people avoid using egg crates for rodents because it could potentially cause salmonella. What's your opinion about it?
@SomethingAnimalАй бұрын
From eggs (and containers) produced and sold in an EU country the risk is extremely low. The EU has very strict laws and regulations when it comes to farm animal health and disease preventions, especially in regards to salmonella. EU chickens have to be vaccinated against it and routinely tested for traces of the bacteria, their housing must meet specific hygiene criteria to prevent contamination and disease, and there are strict rules on how the eggs/boxes must be stored and transported to prevent bacteria growth. Outbreaks can still happen of course, but they are rare and usually contained quickly. The best way to stay safe with egg boxes is to just follow a few simple rules; - Buy them from regulated EU farmers (local smaller farms if possible) - Don't use egg boxes that have traces of faeces on them. - Don't use egg boxes that contain broken eggs or that have raw egg spilled onto them. - If the eggs in the box seem in anyway odd, different, or very unclean, discard the box to be safe. If you're taking basic precautions and making sure the boxes are clean, the likelihood of salmonella being present is extremely low. If you still feel uneasy about it you can absolutely choose not to use egg boxes in your supplies, there are many alternative materials available for toy making :) - Extra note: in the springtime you might be able to find chocolate eggs sold in supermarkets in the same kind of paper egg boxes, those would also be a safe alternative.
