My players will soon be heading to a new region in my homebrew world and I need to do some worldbuilding for it while making it feel distinct and different to everything else in my setting!

I remember a talk Mark Rosewater gave at GDC, about design advice from 20+ years of being lead designer for MTG, where he said “restriction breeds creativity” and that always stuck with me. When I want to make some lore about my world a bit more interesting I often ask questions like “What is making it like this? What is stopping this from being any other way?” or I start by introducing a big limit to something such as “Elves are an endangered species, making up only 1% of the global races” and work both forwards and backwards from there.
