I'm a machinist by trade but I still find watching this channel cathartic. Today I spent 8 hours making a specialized bolt for a nuclear power plant. The tightest tolerance was in tenths and it had a parabolic contour for a metal on metal seal. I respect the breadth of Curtis's skillset. I could probably compete on the machining end but I'd be lost with the various types of welding he managed to do so they look easy.

My mind is beginning to boggle from the description of that bolt for a nuclear power station! With some Aussie politicians talking about nuclear power stations and the description of that bolt, it has got me worried that Australia may no longer have enough high end engineering tradespeople to build and maintain said power stations. There was an article on ABC a few years ago that Australia is going to need something like 30,000 welders to be able to support the new renewable energy industry. I have a real problem with that figure as we had zero boys in our Design Technology classes in years 10, 11 and 12 this year. Not enough boys chose the subject and they have access to a terrific DT facility in the Senior School. Mark from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

@a.karley46727 ай бұрын
The dinosaurs are totally there for the food. Seeing the number of dinosaurs varying from video to video, I strongly suspect those treats are directly translating into greater breeding success. And the chicks - after fledging - are learning to scrounge before the parents drive them off to find their own territory. Where they too will try scrounging and spreading the behaviour.
@aggonzalezdc6 ай бұрын
@@a.karley4672if im correct they're magpies (the frequent flyers anyway), which means they're social and communicate, like crows do (they're related to crows). So information isn't only shared by parents, other members of the social group can learn about good feeding sites. I wouldn't be surprised if they have an entire flock looking for food in far less time than it takes to breed an entire flock. Crazy smart animals. But for sure they know exactly where they're going, what they're doing, and who they're looking for. Pretty sure all they care about is the food, but they know exactly who and how to get it.

CEE. I would wager that you never expected this channel to become so popular with such a global audience. 781k, and we see people commenting from all over the globe! (Missouri, USA here) Honestly what is so compelling is the fact that you made something of very high value using core components saving more than half the cost of OEM. The videography is equal to a Science Channel “How It’s Made,” especially the high speed stuff that shows the crucial details when slowed down, Homey, and of course chips to go with the welding. I initially started watching due to my own son learning welding, and I wanted to have the understanding to discuss what he is doing with a better understanding. Clearly, welding is just a gateway to much higher fabrication and repair skills. I’m sure I’m joined by thousands of others who wait on Friday morning every week for their “fix” of the master @ work. Thanks both for sharing just a small portion of your lives with us.

Hey John! Thanks for noticing the value focus - love that you dig the "Science Channel" vibe with the slow-mo close-ups (and Homey & chips!). Knowing thousands tune in Fridays is incredibly motivating. We appreciate you sharing your time too!

This video brings back memories... That little tap before giving the center punch the proper "whack", is what I used to drive my teacher/supervisor crazy with. His (fair) reasoning was that with the first little tap, the tip of the punch can jump off its mark, so you might be a bit off with the final strike. Of course I was a tool & die maker apprentice and the tolerances were much tighter, so there's that. I loved that job, still miss it, unfortunately I had to choose a different career, and now I'm filling the "void" with watching others do that. I wish you all the best!

I feel like I missed out of half of the build. I absolutely love you guys. Your channel is my AMSR. I am so used to you having all the procedures shown that this time, 3/4's of it was missing. I know some would say it's redundant, but I still love it. You guys have replay value. Don't sell yourselves short. It's like watching Raiders of the Lost Ark, you can watch it lots of times and not be tired of it. You guys are the best. I'm here in the States in Florida watching rockets go off every other day (ya, it's getting that busy around here, but only 12 km away from the launch pad). I'm a fan and would love to meet you, but half a world away. Keep up the fantastic work. Much love to all!

Been quite a few months since I have visited your channel, I am sorry about that you just get full of watching perfection in motion. The work you preform is just that, perfect. And is just as exciting to watch as the first time! Gladd everyone is fine and I hope in good health. Good One on Ya. Sincerely R Serr

Not being a machinist but only a weldor that wishes he knew more about machining, I’m amazed that an interrupted cut of that magnitude doesn’t just beat the lathe into a pile of scrap!
