James. I made this years ago…fantastic!! Really solved a problem we were having w/ the prior holder. I commented at the time, and you asked for a photo…alas, as a commenter, I don’t know how to do that… but rest assured your Lincoln-log idea is great, and I’ve shared it with peers. Thanks…Brian Oh yea, first hand cut dovetail.

Even though I’ve been in workshop joinery 30 odd years I did think this simple kitchen roll holder was bullet proof and simple to make, I even learned a few little things from it ex- the wedding ring square checker. Brilliant video & I need a kitchen roll holder 👍
@BrianThorstad2 жыл бұрын
I made this, it’s been in our kitchen for 2 years. The KEY idea I did not know, the square “Lincoln Logs” style mating of dowel and sides. The dowel has NEVER slipped!

Nice. You have inspired me to make one of these for my garage to replace the crapola piece of plastic there now. Great little project to practice my dovetails. Made mine from some Cherry leftover from a project and used garnet shellac for a finish. Thanks for the video.

Nifty little project, thanks. I'm about to build a small medicine cabinet and need a paper towel holder, so good timing. Doing mine out of old barn wood.

What a fun project! I have a towel holder in the house already, but I do need one for the garage and I need to practice my dovetails as I've never actually done one before. Thanks for the inspiration!

Dovetail joinery is nostalgic and attractive but in the interest of time and practicality what about just using a glued butt joint reinforced with a couple countersunk screws?
@WoodByWright5 жыл бұрын
the glue would not do much there but screws would work just fine. This channel is more about the fun of joinery though. nothing agent screws they are just not as much fun.

the hammer on your bench i have one from an auction but mine needs a new face on one end what i have is raw hide one one what is the other one? its gone where can you get them or not?
@WoodByWright6 жыл бұрын
you can find them on amazon. search for split head mallet. I made mine out of wood. one in pine and one in maple.

Next version, you have to have a tear off bar. Something that swings and has enough weight to hold the roll while you tear it off. Made of wood, of course. I hate having to use two hands to pull off one paper towel. PS: what was the 'ring' trick on the auger bits?
@WoodByWright6 жыл бұрын
I thought of putting one on this one but the one I made with one I never use it. maybe next time. the ring trick lets you know if you are boring level. you can see my ring on the shaft of the auger bit.

You’ve missed a number of ‘take two’ edits in the last few videos folks.
@WoodByWright6 жыл бұрын
If you give time stamps it helps. If not it comes across as trolling.
@63DegreesNorth6 жыл бұрын
@8:51 on this one. There's a similar error in each of the last two videos published also. I thought it was just a once off, but it looks more like it's being missed in the effort to bulk produce and queue, as mentioned in the podcast. I'm no troll, but I won't bother doing this in future. This is your business, not mine.
@WoodByWright6 жыл бұрын
I hate how those things slip through. after watching them 20 times or more during edit that is the type of thing that is easy to miss. but once a video is up it can not be changed. thanks for the feedback. I will try to improve my editing procedure further. The funny thing is I have had far more time to edit this month with the new methouds, but I ahve been changing the video style and that has made me run into now problems in the system.
