@MooreDoing4 жыл бұрын
I dig this! Lots of problem solving with a useful rig at the end. I’m wondering if it may move a little too much depending on the job. Such a cool use of those tongs and I totally get the cool of finding those markings 🤘🏽 Everyone likes the old quality stuff but those are usually well used. How often do you think a perfect surface matters when it comes to anvils, swage blocks, etc?
@skullandspade4 жыл бұрын
I’m going to be putting some bolt sleeves in the concrete for when I need to do heavier work, just didn’t get around to it here. As far as the perfect surfaces: I’m a fan of getting the job done however you can. Flat/square surfaces are of course nice, but usually come at a hefty price. If you’re not able to find a flat/square surface (anvil, swage, etc) remember that a thick piece of mild steel will work pretty darn well (but will deteriorate faster) if you’ve got the steel hot enough. It has a lot to do with what your goal is. Small work requires a lot less surface area for working, but if you’re planning on making big/dead flat/square, consider affordable options for finishing. It’s typical for folks to think “I can’t do it without a specific thing/tool.” Learning how to use your skills and the tools on hand will only make you a better problem solver.
