I would definitely like to see videos on more pieces like this! I also really love the nicknames you've given these dresses -- "Realtor in Tomorrowland" and "Solicitor in Night City" -- they're both wonderfully idiosyncratic and perfectly apt, in that "yes, that's *exactly* what that looks like!" way. (Side note: I really need to try out Cyberpunk 2077. I have very fond memories of the tabletop RPG that it's based on. I know you tend toward the introvert side of things, but have you ever tried any tabletop RPGs?)

Thank you! I have never tried tabletop RPG's. I tend to get frustrated by even board games though becuase I want to win and never to embarrass myself, it brings out my worst base instincts! 🤣 I am playing Cyberpunk again on hard mode as gaming training now and die a lot, but the Night city atmosphere is too good!!

If you plan to continue experimenting with different nail polishes, may I recommend Ünt peelable nail polish base? It protects your nails from the nail polish itself, and it peels off easily without the need for acetone. However, I have found that if you use the Ünt base under a very heavy layer of glitter, the whole nail full tends to pop off if it gets caught on something (similar to stick on false nails).
@nataloves2 жыл бұрын
Can attest to this. Great stuff. Nail swatchers use it because they can paint their nails couple times a day and remove polish without drying out their nailbeds. I also refuse to use glitter polish without it hahaha

Take a hint from a quilter. When you are doing multiple stripes, sew your striped panels much longer then required, then using a rotary cutter, cut each whole pattern section. Each panel with be exactly the same as the others and therefore, much more uniform. Trust me. It will save you lots of time for a beautiful affect. Love the dress!
@TheClosetHistorian2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The trouble is, each stripe is /not/ the same, they are subtly different angles to fit around the curves of the body. That's why I have to label everything so much, the pieces all only fit one place to create a dress that fits properly and are not interchangeable. So I don't need identical stripes, I need precisely different ones!
@lynn8582 жыл бұрын
@@TheClosetHistorian building on Debbie’s idea though… If you were to do an asymmetrical garment, where your stripes didn’t have to match up across the pattern pieces: I think you could basically sew together stripes, cut so that the fabric grains align, creating a new piece of fabric that fits the pattern piece then cut your pattern from this new fabric.

Fun! Very reminiscent of piecing quilt blocks. One tip would be to chain piece when you have a lot of the same pieces stacked like that. Will make it go quicker and you’ll not waste as much thread starting and stopping a new piece each time.

I noticed the other day that there is a 108” wide black cotton sateen on Amazon for quilt backing at a very reasonable price. I ordered some for a steampunk dress I want to make and figured if it’s crappy, I can always get something better for the dress and use the sateen as a lining.

I second the "panther in the jungle vibe." Also, this fabric combo is even better than the one in the look book; and that was one of my favorites.

I want to tell you what I do for seam allowance. I do a lot of drafting (not as much as you lol), I self-draft and also use the lutterloh system. I don't add seam allowance to patterns. I have a set of 1/8" tiny magnets and I place them on each side of the scissor to build up to my seam allowance width. The sides are not equal- one side needs an extra magnet so whichever way I'm cutting I still get the 5/8"s.a. Anyway- I line the edge of the magnet up to the pattern as I'm cutting and creates a uniform seam allowance. I also use brass pins to pin the pattern to the fabric. They're non-magnetic so the pins don't jump up and stick to the magnets as I'm trying to cut. It's just a dumb little thing I came up with so I never have to add seam allowance to patterns. Because I'm lazy. :) Sorry for the rambling. I love your videos!

I found my nails turn yellow and feel tight (I think they try to curl up while still attached to my fingers?) with any kind of nail polish except Sally Hansen... and maybe try rehydrating your nails after harsh acetone treatments by applying copious amounts of lotion then some latex or vinyl gloves to hold it in so you can still touch things? Also my fave way to get sparkly nailpolish off was to stick each finger into the bottle of remover for 30 seconds then wiping with paper towel... Minimizing opportunities for mistakes is kind of a way of life. AND OMFG THE SHINY!!! ...irridescent organza trench coat? I do occasionally buy fabric with zero plan. Last time I did that, it was purple and camel plaid wool and I bought 6 metres of it... then went back to the same store and it was still on sale so I bought another 4m just to make sure. So far it's a skirt and a housecoat and I've still got more than half of it left! ...and this is why I'm not allowed to buy more fabric till I've de-stashed.

It might be easier to leave the original in one piece and using tracing paper or tissue trace the pieces out and add seam allowance. Yes mark them to death but this way you still have an original pattern to refer to when assembling. Also I am with you piecing is easier that applique in this case. Power to the appliquer's but not my choice either.
