YES! As an...ahem...overly endowed individual, I immediately saved and liked this video. Also, love that this top has cap (ish) sleeves! The only thing I would want to change is how short it is. I'm more likely to wear jeans than a skirt, so maybe a quick mention about the best way to add a bottom pattern piece - for more "modern" look - would be great.

This video is quite old already, I'm not sure you're gonna see this comment, but... I've studied pattern making here in Brazil and even though I've been making my own clothes for over 6 years now, I've found you channel a game changer. The way you think the alterations required to make a certain pattern make so much more sense than the way I was taught and from which I was super scared to deviate. I've just cut this retro wrap top, will be sewing it tomorrow. I'm very excited! Thank you so much! Also, I gotta agree with everyone else, your voice is incredibly soothing and I love just leaving the videos rolling... 💜🤍💚

Ooo, thank you for going into detail about closing the one dart on the back on the wrap side. Making that is still on my to-do list, and I wouldn't have considered drawing through the apex like that.

To adjust the bobbin tension for your Bernette: place bobbin in the case and feed the thread through until about 6 inches is sticking out. Then take the bobbin casing and shake it once. Thread should give freely but not too easily or not at all, 3 inches is about right. To adjust the bobbin tension, use the screwdriver to tighten or loosen. From then on, tension adjustments should be at top thread. Its pretty straightforward. I've always managed better stitching and less headache with a bottom feeding bobbin.
@TheClosetHistorian4 жыл бұрын
Alas I have watched many a video, but just right, the sweet spot of not too loose and not too tight, still evades me I'm afraid! Thank you!

@@TheClosetHistorian some can figure it out by video and others have to physically feel the give to get bobbin tension. Might bring it into a sewing shop and they could adjust it and then you could give the thread a good flick to know.

I love this print on you! You make clothes that look fantastic, and I love watching them turn from flat fabric into a creation. It is a form of magic. :) As a person who has never sewn...would it be possible/practical to "bag" sew the whole bottom of the garment closed, then pull it right side out through one of the open sleeve openings?

@juadonna3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do that, it is commonly called "The Burrito Method" It is rather tricky, so watch as many videos as it takes to understand it. And try it on scraps with a reduced size and simplified style. I've done it twice now, and I agree with Blanca, that it is very easy to get confused! Mostly, I use either flat or bag lining.
@melaniecorral72874 жыл бұрын
As a newbie, I understand that you made the pattern. But I’m not sure where to even start with that. Do you have measurements, or reference for how the sleeves are or width? And I always have a problem with the arms. I have large arms and the cyse (sp) is never big enough 😞 as I stated I’m a newbie so I am learning about cutting the patterns. Thank you.
@TheClosetHistorian4 жыл бұрын
All of my patterns are indeed drafted from scratch/measurements, but not every time, so the card pattern I traced in the begging here is a "block", a pattern already fitted perfectly to me that I can then modify. To create a block you can make one from scratch with measurements, or modify an existing similar pattern. I talked about hacking a block from a commercial pattern in this video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eobXqoOGo9l1qLM and I have also shown how I drafted my block from standardized measurements in this video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIqtiX6eZsSXias Creating the block and getting it to fit is arguably the most difficult part of pattern drafting, as after you have a working block all things are much easier after that really! You can also buy "fitting shell" or "block" or "sloper" patterns already made too, which I link to in the descriptions of those other two videos. Also, welcome newbie! I hope some of these resources will help!

Oh, I started to worry about the seam allowances showing through at the neck, when you mentioned, how sheer the fabric is. I had that happen to me and it bugged me so much! Have you considered underlining the fabric instead? Of course, then you don't get the pristine inside and need to serge and use facings and all that...but it can be a real lifesaver with white fabrics. But anyway, beautiful top and thanks for taking the time, explaining the patternmaking process! I have never been able, to find a storebought wrap top or a pattern for one, that would sit quite right. And I love the style!
@TheClosetHistorian4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Rara! I suppose I could be extra extra and flatline the sheer with a thin white fabric and then bag line it as well, but I'm far too lazy for that ha I don't sew with white often enough to be bothered much luckily!
