I've heard it said "the only thing cooler than making guitars is making the tools to make guitars". I've had a daisy pin router attachment from MLCS for quite a while now but haven't used it but now I'm totally inspired. It seems like with a good neck template it would be simple for routing the truss rod channel. Thanks for the video.

Thank you,the possibilities are endless ,a hour or so making a jig now will save time later and everything will be repeatable so it's really good, thank you for watching

last year i started making a overhead router ,i had always wanted one but knew id never be able to afford one. it turned out good but there was too much play in it so i shelved it ...i still have the video if anyone wants to see it ,let me know in the comments ... when i got my new shop i planned on fixing it and made room for it but then thought of a better way to make it that didnt take up any extra room and this is it ! the lift is based on jay bates router lift ,although mine is different i dont get here without his design . while there is more upgrades and jigs ill be making , it works really well and im very happy with it thank you for watching steve

it would be cool to see the overarm router. I'm thinking of making an over arm router with a router lift but upside down if that makes sense

+Waylight Creations thank you ,it's pretty close just needs a little over engineering but it does work surprisingly good ,just need to research router bits... I don't know a spiral up cut from a spiral down cut with a twist of lemon ! 😀 Thank you for watching

sdmcustom woodworking curious of your thoughts, I just use a router bit with a guide bearing on it. Do you see an advantage to this setup? Just speed?
@sdmcustoms7 жыл бұрын
+tim sway yes I think so ,all I have to do is attached the template and set the depth stop ,I think the main thing for me is that with all the guitars I've made I typically throw away the 5 minute template I just made and make a new one ,this way I'll save them ,I can do pretty much every step off the same template so positioning things up is something I'll never have to think about again

+Steve Walker thanks man ,I don't like "cookie cutter " guitars ,I think the body shapes should all be a little different but when it comes to neck pockets and pick up configuration this really will save time ones I make templates for humbuckers and single coil etc

Nice. Or just use a bit with bearing basically same technic and result.

Great idea! you think the wooden dowel worked better than the metal? I would assume the wooden one would warp or give in time.
@sdmcustoms6 жыл бұрын
Thank you,if you watch closely you can see the wooden dowel bend alittle but yeah it'd probably Break in time, thanks for watching

Nicely done man! Where did you get the Corian from?
@sdmcustoms7 жыл бұрын
+Dan The Maker Man thanks man ,we make alot of Corian counter tops so have a ton of leftovers and sink cut outs ...check out your local cabinet shop if you need some, it gets thrown away so I'm sure you could get it free or cheap
@danthemakerman7 жыл бұрын
We don't really have cabinet shops around here more like dudes that make cabinets. We have an Ikea so our cabinets needs are more than satisfied.

+Dan The Maker Man where there's a dude there's off cuts lol ,Google Corian counter tops and check their dumpster sometimes the marble and granite guys do Corian too
