Fun Fact: The saying "Its raining cats and dogs" actually comes from when cats and dogs would sleep on the roofs of houses to keep warm when it was cold outside. When it rained really hard they animals would get washed off of the roof and it would look like it was literally raining cats and dogs.

Hey Kyle, this episode was very cool and hit a little close for me. I was ejected out of a car as it was rolling down an embankment on the road. I was about 15’ (5meters?) in the air before crashing to the ground. I broke my lumbar and thoracic vertebrae, as well as C7 in my neck. And though they never teach it in high school biology, I had worse than a concussion because my brain partially rotated in my skull and broke connective tissue. Clearly I am fine despite the 13 screws, 2 titanium rods and 8 level fusion of my lower spine. Oh, can’t forget the vertigo and bipolar depression that I now have too lol. Keep up the great work and thanks for giving me interesting things to look forward to and share with my daughters.

The pelican crash also had a lot to do with it. Explosions and impact are more damage than just falling. Plus the chief hit a lot of trees on his way down and hit the ground at enough of an angle to extend his landing time (why you dont want to do a 3 point landing), which helped minimize the damage. Chief, even with all his mutations, was still knocked out for awhile after that fall

I actually used the reverse of terminal velocity in a D&D game by creating a sheet of ice covered in thin spikes of ice pointed upward and we calculated how fast the ice would shoot up to the surface of the water... and if I caught any fish without needing to waste time with bait. Ultimately, the math got really tricky, so he just rolled a dice... but you just need a DM that is also a physics/math nerd and awesome things happen.

Hey Kyle; love the show! CORRECTION! Cats don't survive from terminal velocity falls by landing on their feet. They will try to land on their feet if the fall is around 6 stories (I think), but at terminal velocity, they spread their legs to maximize drag and spread the damage across more surface area. They only survive with medical attention, because their bones still shatter and organs still rupture.

Doing some quick calculations, you can actually find that an ant falling from free fall height with no air resistance would feel a force of about 1050 newtons. However, it would feel a force of about 11 million pascals, or about 1600 pounds of force per square inch. So yes, it would be very much squished.

(For the peeps who may not know it. Its when water is mixed with silica coating). Apparently this water-air emulsion can absorb more CO2 so could we (as a country) make a big like lake or something filled with this to lower the CO2 in the air ? @Vastin

Really going to depend on whether you're just talking about all current active volcanoes, or add in all dormant volcanoes and volcanic hot-spots - because the latter might include things like the Yellowstone super-volcano caldera, which would be bigger than all of the others put together and dramatically change Earth's climate if it became fully active again. That would be a bad scene.

A lot were proved to be caused by lightning. Exacerbated by dry undergrowth that wasn't removed during the previous years by way of prescribed burns offs. The window of opportunity between too wet to burn and too dangerous to burn has reduced due in part to climate change. Parts of Australia have also experienced lengthy periods of drought which haven't helped matters. But yes some arseholes do light fires, and some people also accidentally cause them. Like the guy in Western Australia who was towing a trailer when a wheel bearing collapsed, when he pulled over it jad caused a fire that quickly jumped across the road he was travelling resulting in a fire that later spread at 2.5km/hour or about ~497Rods/hour for our imperial holdouts.

Talking of D&D... In one of my games, the PCs' accidentally summoned an elephant while flying on a flying carpet at about 1000 meter altitude while confronting a rock bird. They went down to see what happened to it only to find elephant burger. They also managed to petrify the rock and found gravel in a crater where it landed.

All I can picture is people showing up to a Sarlacc ball pit, yeeting children into it's plastic filled maw. And since Boba's down there, the kids that live become Mandalorians. This is my headcanon now, and I haven't stopped laughing.

So I'm calling it now, he's gonna reference the little bugs I used to call "ant lions" as a kid. Idk what they are really called, but they use an inverted cone of sand at its natural angle of repose to allow themselves to trap ants and suck them down. I love those things I used to play with them in Florida when I grew up.

If I absolutely planned on falling from an extreme height and not dying, and I didn't have a parachute, I think I'd have some kind of makeshift glider or something. Come to think of it, is there a potential way for you to shape your body in a way to make it like a makeshift glider? Is it better to aim for water, grass, rock, or trees? And, what happens if you fall at terminal velocity and land in a Sarlacc Pit?

Hey Kyle, thanks for keeping science fun! And speaking of fun, the whole "It's raining cats and dogs" idiom quite possibly originated from the joke that goes:It's raining cats and dogs! How do you know? I just stepped in a poodle! Then of course there is Douglas Adam's idea that flying is just falling at the ground and missing, but that's a whole other story.

If Kyle is (totally not) a supervillain, who would be a hero to act as his antagonist? The Hacksmith maybe? He could build something to combat the void.

@@Sm00k eh, if you compare it to the portal to the moon, the 'small' portal may make that part not as much of an issue. Not an issue in SG universe- it's 'one way' though it did start to attract things due to gravitational fields (and other fields) being able to act both ways. Not saying it wouldn't be bad in other ways though.

I've asked this before and you said you read all the comments but do you? DO YOU?! While in the void you bounce to emphasize words or maybe a physical representation of inflection. I cant stop seeing it and I'm reminded of your one video about talking like a youtuber. Same or similar thing? Thanks for reading (again maybe?) Deeply enjoy the shows.

Kyle has revealed to us one of his few villainous codes of honor: Regardless of the evil plot, no messing with children. The Doctor would potentially be content to look the other way as the Kyle Clone Army conquers the known universe.

"It's raining cats and dogs" originates when animals were kept in the loft and refers to it raining hard enough that the water got through the thatch and caused the animals to fall through the weakened patch.
