David! I'm only like 6mins into this video and I just have to say...I have no idea what the styling is of your shooting for this but I freaking live it man. It's so dramatic and cool.

Maybe after reading this comment(before watching the video), I was predisposed to notice this but the audio(voiceover) sounded different. It sounded super clear and natural to me. Maybe it’s the same setup as always but the voiceover stood out to me as well.

The cinematography, the silent space with the story being the focus then adding some music during dead space was very thought out and executed very well! Loved this different version of your story telling very much! Constructive feedback to your brother or you, I would knock up the f-stop just a tad as your focus was very narrow on your shots where you when from out of focus to focused, at times it was a little blurry on some shots even after you pulled focus but letting a little more light in will make it a little more crisp but I'm sure you're already aware. Great video!

Hey David, I was completely on board with the entire build (even the commercial) but at 9:46 I almost lost my sh....t - who would waste alcohol like that! Please lie to me and tell me it was bottom shelf rot gut or really weak tea or your special blend of wood spirits... but please oh please don't tell me it was decent whiskey, bourbon, etc. I need to figure out how to do this! So this video may be watched a few dozen times in the very near future :) Be well, and THANK YOU for your time, effort, creativity, and energy!

Great video, but I think you missed an opportunity to for overkill. When the maple veneer failed on the CNC, you could have made the pattern out of maple dowels. You could have made the maple dowels on the lathe, and you could've made a special jig to drill all of the holes on the coaster.... I think you get it... great video.

@b1ackb1u33 ай бұрын
I think you need more clamps on that
@paulhopkins19054 ай бұрын
Most YTubers use WAY too much glue, I'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem. I think the maple veneer was too thin to glue on without a caul. You would have been better off using the plywood to sandwich the maple instead of gluing it to the mahogany. You were only getting good contact directly under the clamp pads

Even though it’s not in the mahogany family the wood is still officially called “sapele mahogany”.

It is too many clamps, next time ur better off using cauls on the thin wood so the clamping pressure is evenly distributed.
Please don’t tell me that you use “real” bourbon at the end of the video and wasted it? I know you picked up the glass and licked it off the table, didn’t you?

I'm curious about leaving the "burnt edges" on the feet of the coasters. Did you like it? Did you decide it wouldn't be seen and not worth the effort to sand clean? Not criticizing by the way, just curious about your thought process! If it was me, I would have tried to sand the edges clean and probably wound up doing it too aggressively and ruining the symmetry!
@irakopilow92233 ай бұрын
My first thought when you clamped your glue-up was "Why not make blanks a size that would fit in your vacuum bag?" That way, you wouldn't get that delamination. Just sayin'

And as a professional woodworker i can say that 'we' dont like overkill simply because it takes too much time, i think it's more the youtube woodworkers who like it because they get more views......
