I really like that you didn’t fill in the burls and “imperfections” with epoxy. The gaps in the wood really added nice character to the finished piece.

If it were clear epoxy, that could be cool. Right now, I'm not exactly sure what he was trying to make, but with the epoxy, or resin, he could have a more complete appearance to the art.

Personally I love the pieces which use epoxy as a key part of the art. But I can see that it would only be a small part of this piece. So can see why Andy went this way. It worked out well, even if not to my aesthetic taste.

I qualified as an Automobile Engineer from the Austin in the 60's . Got my degree and suddenly asked myself, what are you doing? Started wood turning and absolutely loved it! It's never too late either!

It's never too late to learn, my father was a farmer but he started wood turning in his 60s , built his own lathe buying pieces at the auction, and had items go all over the world.

Wow! Andy this piece is simply amazing a great job! I liked the gouge cam angle a great deal, hardly any shake to the picture and was a smashing perspective. Youve instilled some ideas as all we woodturners can do is look at a lump of wood and think which way it will go. Your easy steady is also a great , been thinking about one myself. Yew wood is impressive stuff. Beautiful colors and extremely dense for a gymnosperm. When I teach wood science I always linger on that for a bit.
