A lesson I have been learning is 7Amps in 8G is far different than 7A in 5G (as in the tails) I figure it is energy per gallon. Turning down the amps (watching drip and temp) as I go seems to help. fwiw 'Single Malt' might be best understood as 'singly malt' - even single malt bottles have multiple malts in them but from the same distillery. As I understand it you produced a 'single malt'. Congrats

Yeah, those heating figures definitely can change A LOT by changing your volume only a short bit. And yeah, I'd say this is effectively a single malt. Since we used smoked grains, we can technically call it a smokey malt, but you're totally right. Ingredients wise (and taste wise) this is essentially a single malt. Thanks for watching!

Boo, If you are having a problem getting the Smoked grains you need for recipes, Make your own. I have done this before to make beer. I haven't done it in years but found that, beers I made from smoked malt turned out very well. I've misplaced my original recipe but found one on the web that looked like I remembered. If you would like to try I can send you a PDF I downloaded. Just a couple of things, remember to use unchlorinated water when you wet the two row base malt and keep the temperature of the smoker under 185F.

Did you clean the boiler after the stripping run before the second run ? Clean the jars between runs ?

I use a water reciruclation chamber filled with ice water and just pump into my still with it. There's a video on how to create one yourself here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZfbZWODhaqBoZo

Bo, why would you not put the Heads back in it alchol is it not?

Heads are full of methanol and leave you with a pretty bad hangover, so we want to keep those out. It's still alcohol, but we definitely don't want any alcohol that'll leave you feeling bad the next morning!

@@milehidistilling1 new studies show methanol is actually more prevalent in the tails. While having a slightly lower boiling point to alcohol, methanol has a higher affinity for water and will attach itself to the water in tails. If you have a REALLY precise reflux, you may be able to pull more methanol in the heads.
