Making a SPACE MARINE Diorama Featuring My Friends

Using a mix of scratch building, 3D printed parts, and lots of patience, I made this miniature space marine diorama as a present for a friend of mine. I originally got into the Warhammer 40K Universe because of the DnD campaign he ran for me and my friends. To immortalize their characters, I also sculpted and kitbashed their characters as if 10 years had passed in game and they became veterans of the Flesh Eaters chapter.

I personally would opt more for the "Deathwatch" RPG. It is a D10 system with exploding dice but is really good at doing Space Marines justice as their lore counterparts are super powerful.

@@KnarbMakes I only played once but it was a lot of fun having my heavy bolter bring the will of the Emperor on those Tyranids (My dice exploded hard and dealt over 200dmg which brought down multiple of the Xenos in one attack. Addmitedly we played the exploding rule wrong but who cares :D)

The blue pipe is a nice little pop of color without distracting from the rest of the building. The red looks great on the dusty landscape. Projects like this make me wish I played more sci-fi games.

7:00 -- Look up a freeware game called _Inquisimunda_ . It's a game setting that combines elements of 2E 40K/Necromunda with the 54mm skirmish game Inquisitor and some touches from WFRP. It's basically the answer to the question 'What if there was an original Rogue Trader RPG?' If you want something more D&D-ish, there's the old Dragonstar setting for 3E: elves and lasers in space. The game Fading Suns (which was basically 40K + the Pendragon RPG) had a D&D3E version too.

Our groups RP Wrath and Glory, build up to a few KT battles, and have many times ended in a full match of Narrative play Warhammer. Our groups feel more attached to the characters and a death on the battlefield has more impact when it was some one they RP with.

Very cool build. I'm really impressed you sculpted your party! I also ran a "40k" D&D game once, but mine was more traditional. We didn't get too far along in the game unfortunately, but the setting was a feral world within the Imperium. I let one of my friends play a lost primarch. The plan was he was just discovering his powers and would be near his peak at the end of the campaign. Then the Emperor was going to come down and help found a chapter of marines, with the PCs of course being the founding members.

how did you make characters is there a homebrew system that allows this? This sounds really cool and I would love to do it, but I cant begin to imagine how you would convert it.

Fantastic quality on that diorama, Knarb!! Also, this is the first time I've ever seen anyone else use Gouache for tabletop terrain washes! I've been doing that for a while because I love that I can come back with a wet/damp paper towel and remove (or soften if just brushed lightly once or twice) the wash wherever I want, just like an oil wash, but without the need for solvents like mineral spirits! I've been using an artist's grade gouache because it's highly pigmented, but any gouache would work well for washes (plus a drop or two of dish soap or flow medium of course). I love it! Of course you also gotta give the terrain a coat of some kind of varnish or matte spray at the end to protect the paintjob, but I do that anyway even when I just use acrylic paints!

For my Warhammer 40k campaing running current im using the Kill Team 2021 rules for characters with a simple D20 rolls for common or off combat skill tests. Btw nice video bro, good to see more 40k RPG content, nice work!

If youre looking for something 40k RPG that isnt just space marines, check out Only War, its free online and has everything from gang weapons to space marines to guardsmen. Also has lots and lots of skills, charachteristics and talents to customize your character. Its really cool.

Knarb, I love your builds, but remember a coating of Mod Podge makes everything stronger and easier to paint. Mix it with black paint so you can tell where you have applied it. It protects your builds, acts as sort of a primer, and makes it possible to paint anything quickly because it won't be thirsty. Additionally, you can also spray paint foam coated in proper layers of Mod Podge.

Deathwatch/Only War are the older games based on a d100 system. They are very good but OOP. Highly recommend the chaos version, Black Crusade. For the current game, Wrath and Glory. It’s a bit more narrative and less crunchy but still very good. Or you could always use a system neutral game, like Fate!

Great job - I feel like the biggest issue with using Necromunda rules for tabletop RPG, is the lack of non-combat rules? Besides Dark Heresy (which is absolutely brilliant, you really feel like you're playing an Inquisitor like Eisenhorn), there's also other rules in the same "series" from Fantasy Flight Games: Black Crusade (play as chaos marines), Deathwatch (play as deathwatch marines), Rogue Trader (play as rogue traders), and Only War (play as imperial guard I think, haven't looked into this one yet). I'd even say that Dark Heresy d100 is my favourite pen and paper ruleset
