It’s time for a new machine!! Horizon: Forbidden West has been out for a while now, and you can bet that I started working on a machine as soon as I finished the game. There were SO many amazing ones to choose from, it was really hard! I ended up going with the Spikesnout and had such a great (and hard) time working on it.
If you love the world of Horizon, check out everything #beyondthehorizon ! There are so many amazing artists showering this world with love.
‪@StudsonStudio‬ built a glorious Tremortusk from the game, so be sure to check his build out here: • TREMORTUSK! The Bigges...
Also, check out these wonderfully talented people who helped bring Forbidden West to life!

Ace of Clay uses Folkart Matte acrylics, and they are definitely not shiny. Maybe they'll work for you? The sculpt here was amazing; I can't imagine trying to assemble such a complicated machine!

@mmart829 Жыл бұрын
@@MelissaDawnMakes Oh I'm a complete amateur I'm afraid. I did 3 nudibranch sculptures using FIMO. You had to do the outer layer as a sort of blanket that you put on top of the body. I don't remember having too many problems? FIMO is the go-to brand here in Finland which is why I used that. You can get Sculpey from more specialized hobby online stores but the price is usually twice as much.

A while back I started collecting a line of mech beasts from a 90s manga until it became too rare and expensive. Besides some of the cooler ones never got produced. So I decided to make some myself to at least complete the bad guys. Luckily I found your Behemoth video just yesterday, and now this one, and they're encouraging because of how good they turned out.
@MelissaDawnMakes
@MelissaDawnMakes 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's awesome! What manga was it? Best of luck making them!! I'm sure they're turning out great!
@heroesytumbas
@heroesytumbas 2 жыл бұрын
@@MelissaDawnMakes Thanks! Is called B't-X, is about warriors who ride sentient mech beasts powered with their own blood. It starts with the hero in a quest to find his brother and ends up saving the world, you know the deal, has a vintage 70's style look, so not as modern or complicated as those you make. I'm still gathering reference material from the manga panels (since there are no design sheets) to decide with which one to start and the pose. I have my favorites but I'd like to start with the one that seems easier haha.
@MelissaDawnMakes
@MelissaDawnMakes 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds really interesting! I'll have to look it up some time. My vote? Go with your favorites!! Who cares if they're hard? Do I wish I'd done a watcher instead? Yeah, kinda. but STILL!! It's so cool to have some of my favorite machines
@heroesytumbas
@heroesytumbas 2 жыл бұрын
@@MelissaDawnMakes Yeah, you're right. Btw, what did you use to make molds to avoid sculpting the same part over and over? One of the mechs is a Hydra and sculpting one head instead of nine would be a great help haha.
@MelissaDawnMakes
@MelissaDawnMakes 2 жыл бұрын
@@heroesytumbas I use a two part mold putty! For something as detailed as the hydra head though, I'd probably suggest doing a pourable silicone instead. The putty tends to not like 3d shapes and gets bubbles in corners. I typically buy my silicone from Smooth-On. The Oomoo 30 is an excellent choice!

If you want the whole thing matte, you can also try a matte varnish at the end, then it shouldn't really matter how shiny the paint itself is. But I would definitely try it on a test piece first because sometimes it can fog up the piece which sucks if it is something you finished.
@MelissaDawnMakes
