There are 2 ways of making a Square in a Square quilt block, and I'm going to show you both ways. One takes more fabric, but one requires a custom ruler.
When making without the custom ruler,
* cut your larger square 1/2" larger than your finished block size.
** For example, for a 6.5" finished block, start with 7" square.
* cut your smaller squares based on your finished block size, divided by 2, and add a 1/2"
** For example, for a 6.5" finished block, 6.5"/2 + .5" = 3.75"
