I can't imagine too many people here don't know about ToT, but you should definitely link him because he's a gem. I'm really amazed someone hasn't given him a show on HGTV or something, because he's one of a kind.

I was going to say that..his weld turntable is pretty cool..and his vids are fun to watch..as well as these,, but I worry going "big" time would ruin its cool factor being a small maker.. I love the home brew of these makers.. even Adam savage stepped back from all that and I enjoy his vids again.

Code hete requires the endvof railings to return and fasten to wall so nothing catchesbon them.

Very nice. I like your bracket design. I’m surprised code didn’t call for a bend on the ends to prevent the ends from catching inside a shirt sleeve and causing a fall.

Looks great. If it was for the new owner, I wouldn't trust that existing coating outdoors, fearing additional paint to flake off. Can't wait for more updates about the upstate property!

You don't have to grind off the coating if you want to use more commodity plumbing pipe to save time and money over buying tubing in the future. It can be removed with a coating of paint stripper and a rub down with lacquer thinner and you get beautiful clean pipe with no grinding marks ready to be finished however you want. I made two railings for my house that way when a hardware store closed down and sold all the metal pipe for 50-80% off and it has worked fine even multiple years later outdoors in the hot sun.

Very nicely done! Seeing you take on projects like this gives me motivation to finish my own projects even though they aren't woodworking / metalworking related. You're highly skilled in your craft although I'd like to say I could beat you when it comes to soldering electronics.

Great looking! Code can be a... stickler - dia of pipe, distance from the wall, elevation and how far it extends...

've heard that the reason firemen don't fight fires these days is because of building codes. They very rarely actually get called to a structure fire and often if they do it's an old house or a structure not built to code. So, it is a stickler, but there are good reasons for those codes. Most of them. Some are silly. I also read that stairs are the number one source of accidents in the home.

I've had good luck combining tapcon anchors and zipties. What I do is clip the ziptie to length, place it in the hole, and thread in the tapcon. Very strong bite. Never had an issue yet. Just my experience, nice handrail.

FYI re stair hand railing height, both International Bldg Code & Int. Residential Code: "... not less that 34" and not more than 38"..." above tread nosing. Oddly, doesn't state to where on the rail but I've always drawn it to top of rail which has always been accepted by all bldg depts for 30 yrs. Guardrails 42". Min. 1.25" max 2" o.d.

great video, thorough explanations. could you please do a short on that bender accessory, i have a used hossfeld but didnt get anything like that with it. a few different camera views with closeups of the setup would be helpful. I didnt see a listing for a "press" on their website.. thanks.

code check: hand rails now require a 90deg return, toward the wall, at both ends. not sure if your location would have building code requirements?

Tapcons are junk. I would advise against using them on anything load bearing. I would go with a red head typr anchor or expansion bolt. I do metal awnings on commercial buildings. And just about every time we go on a repair the tapcons have broken loose or backed out from wind movement. Just a thought. Nice job.

@@MakeEverything we have to use them per manufacturer specs, but I wouldn't use them on a personal project. Just a small detail that could add a few more years of serviceability to your product.
