Making A Stone Cup From Solid Granite

I made this more or less on a whim, thinking it would be a neat thing to do. The cup holds about a cup (250ml) of liquid has a very solid, hefty feel. Use this one at your secret order initiation ceremonies and all ritual sacrifices :)
I could have taken the finishing further by grinding it smooth and polishing it, but I really like the rough texture and how a liquid will bring out those incredibly rich colours, almost like magic.
For practical purposes, it would work well as a mortar and I may make a pestle from the same stone to use with it.

Talking of the colours, I wonder if an application of Renaissance Wax would keep them showing even when the cup is dry! (Renaissance wax - May be used on any solid surface including wood, metal (coins), marble, onyx, shell, stone, ivory, plastics or leather/paper . . . . )

Well if you give him a corded one he's just going to follow the cord back to civilization. As it is it's going to be a bitch getting him to hunt squirrels instead of the damn drones for more stuff to build with.

As a stonecarver I can only say Well done John! You have a good feel of handling that machine and the shape. We'd do that almost in the same way, except that we'd use a diamond blade that's mounted on a flange at the end or the arbour, so that it's completely flat on one side and further away from your hand. The way you're using it has the drawback that you could cut into your own hand much easier. Thanks for showing the fun of making things out of stone.
