When I lived in a small place, having a garden on the terrace was such a mood booster! And it was a joy to just go out there and prune, trim dead leaves, water, and just look at everything. I ended up with shelves and plants vertically all around! Like a private secret garden. It gave lots of privacy as well. Enjoy it!

I like that idea using the tub, especially putting the lid underneath. I was thinking that when you watered them the dirt would be all over the balcony, but the lid will solve that. Great idea!!
@peterw28457 ай бұрын
Great video and always the best way to learn is to do it. The only thing I would say is about the lid under the tote, I would turn it the other way up to it acts to catch any water , the water will come out brown and over a period of time may stain the concrete of the balcony. Have fun with everything you do

My Mom is a master gardener for plants on her deck. She uses a plant food called Schultz Plant Food. It’s a liquid and you just add a tiny bit to a gallon of water. She uses empty gallon jugs to water her plants. Make sure to use warm water not cold when you water. Plants are like people and cold water will shock them. Rain water isn’t so cold in real life I think. Anyway the huge plastic tub will probably need at least a gallon or two of water per day. Good luck!

Let me share and idea, that I did some times. While doing some hiking, when I find a plant that I like (a small one), I carefully take it and bring it home. I have a pot garden in my terrace with those plants. When taking care of them, they remind me of the places where I took them from. It is nice! So, I would suggest you to do some hiking, instead of Home Depot, yeah!

Hi, love the creative energy! I’m thinking you will want to put some type of drain pan under your plastic bin so that any excess water can evaporate? The water likely will drain out of the holes as muddy water. The muddy water will either stain the patio or run down off of your patio onto your neighbor’s patio. Or both.

You could fix a gutter to your ledge on the balcony and it would be ideal for strawberries , either end you could put some netting up to grow , climbers such as runner beans etc, you can also recycle fizzy pop bottles into hanging planters for tomatoes and cucumbers, peppers etc , having plants on your balcony will give you a therapeutic area to relax , can’t wait to see how it turns out . Do you have an email to send sketches / designs that might help you. Did you buy a watering can , it’s kinda essential! lol

Like some others have already commented...... Those scissors in hand pointed upward while lifting that bag of soil in a confined space...........scared me to death. LOL. Depending on sunlight levels, you'll probably just get watermelons and tomatoes. The watermelon plat will dominate everything except the tomatoes.....they'll get the tomatoes too if you let the watermelon plant vine up the tomato plants. As they grow, the tomato plants will need some kind of support or they will eventually break over from their own weight. Great presentation, though. Thanks for doing these!!!!!!!!!

It’s always nice to have some watermelons growing on the terrace. That way if a zombie apocalypse happens you can always fill the watermelons with high proof vodka, stick rags in the holes, and when the zombies approach you can light the rags on fire ( one at a time) and throw the improvised Molotov cocktails off the balcony to defend yourself. 😅. All jokes aside, I think you’d do just fine as a pioneer woman in a covered wagon.

Good luck with the garden! The only issue I know might come up is that the birdies love them some strawberries, when my parents grew them they had to put up netting to keep the birds off them. If you notice vanishing strawbs, that'll most likely be the cause. Potatoes are pretty good for growing on your terrace, you can grow them in buckets, but they have to be the larger style buckets. Might be a bit late in the season to start them, but if you did start them you'd probably at least get some baby potatoes.
