In this episode I scrape and sand the interior, add a fillet and glass reinforcement in the chine, then glass the whole interior, wetting it out with epoxy and finish off with a light fill coat.

While watching this episode a thought came to me about the construction of the Coaming from Episode 11. When gluing the pieces and down to the last few pieces to meet at the middle, I would split a larger space with two equally size but larger pieces to avoid the one small piece. This may not make a difference but would be my approach. Thanks for a sharing a wonderful series.

Just about to start stripping and basically have this playlist on repeat. Hoping you find the time to button up this series between teaching, building, and paddling before I catch up to the steps haha. Thank you for another great video. The editing of these improves with each release.

Thanks. I have a few more weeks of teaching and hopefully I can knock through the rest of the editing before getting caught up in other projects.

Nice technique on the bridging issue, I've found myself using my gloved fingers before. Your way seems a whole lot cleaner, lol.

Forgive me if this has been asked before, Would a small roller be better than a paint brush or squeegee to move epoxy more efficiently?

I find a roller can pump some air into the layup, but with care that can be avoided.

I know body shop guys sometimes use charcoal powder or some kind of dark dust to reveal lows while sanding. Does this technique work on wood, and is it even that necessary on big areas like the hull?

I have taken a pencil and scribbled all over the surface prior to sanding. When the scribbles are gone, you are pretty sure you've sanded everything. It depends on how into it I am whether I bother or not.

Olá Nick, tudo bem com você, uma pergunta, daria para fazer este caiaque, não com tira construída, mas com chapa de compensado, naval e anteparas dentro da embarcação. É só isso obrigado, e fique com Deus. Abraços.

Why are you wearing a paint mask for the epoxy, what kind of fumes does epoxy produce that it requires a mask? Can't wait to build my own strip built kayak, don't have the money or the time at the moment.

Epoxy does not contain any solvents, so it doesn't put out much in the way of fumes. But, it is a reactive petrochemical mixture that does release some vapor, detectable as odor. Some people develop an allergic sensitivity to it. I work with the stuff for a living. It would be a big hassle to have to stop using it. While you may be able to safely use it without a lot of protective gear, it is cheap and easy to take some basic precautions. Probably more important than a respirator is gloves. Always wear gloves when you handle uncured epoxy. Try to keep it off your skin. If you get it on your skin DO NOT USE SOLVENTS to clean it off. Use soap and water, white vinegar, or wipe off most with a towel, let it dry then peel it off. Solvents will accelerate penetration into your skin. When I'm slapping a lot of resin around I wear the Tyvek suit to keep it off my clothes and more importantly off of me.

I can imagine when working with epoxy on a daily basis taking precautions to protect your respiratory tracks would seem advisable. I worked with epoxy and glass before and I always found that the glass was much more irritating than the epoxy mainly when sanding the the glass, glass particles seem to get everywhere.

When sanding glass with freshly cured epoxy, the epoxy is probably still a bigger threat than the glass. Breathing epoxy dust when it is not fully cured is seriously bad for you. Dust respirator is must.

Good to know, I'll keep that in mind, last time I glassed something was over a decade ago. I can't remember that I was wearing protection.
