Great job Becky. One thing you can do that will speed up the process is once you have quartered you log, you can use your fixed blade knife to baton away the section you were removing to make the kindling pocket. A little safer and quicker when using smallish rounds. I truly enjoy your demeanor and approach to thriving in the woods

Great video, thanks for the extra historical info on the swedish fire torch. It's nice to know a bit of the history of how it came about! Be careful with the onions in your dish when feeding Buster, onions are not good for dogs and would hate for him to be unwell! Keep up the good work, looking forward to future vids.

Another great video Becky. We burned these a lot when I was younger. We sometimes used an auger to drill them through and a saw for the cross cuts. A couple of tips to try if you want are that you can put your tinder in from underneath before you light it so it doesn't catch on the feathers going in from the top, or even put the tinder in each half before you lash them together. Keep up the good work lass. ☺

No need for carving it hollow. More wood in the candle, more it has fuel to burn. So a 1/2 inch cross cut is more than enough to keep the air flowing for the fire to burn. It also burns a lot longer if you light it from top. Ideal wood for that is dry old pine.

The way to recognize a real woods(wo)man is the use of the proper tool for the job. No dodgy battening of the wood but a proper axe to split and shave the wood. Job done in a third of the time which leaves more time to enjoy the food and coffee! I usually bring a length of thin steel wire with two end buts tied to it to be able to make a quick Swedish fire. Also useful to assassinate snorers during the night if need be!
