Nice. I like how you made the flat in the 4 jaw. That's a keeper technique. Thanks for sharing it.

Cool project man I’ll be doing the same when I get my mill in the next week or two with my lathe when I get it and my mill drill so yeah. Good to see some better calipers on the video too you’ll get there slowly with your tools just keep an eye on eBay and auctions plus sales etc.

Hi nice video I am currently restoring a Barker pm just like yours . Can you please let me know what size vice and brand name I would like to get the exact one ,it looks perfect on your mill . Thanks. also can you include the link to Barker I would like to see what parts are still available for this machine.

Here is the website for Barker... www.barkermill.com/ The vise I used is a no name cheap 3" vise from ebay, shipped from India. However, they are not so cheap anymore. When I bought mine it was ~$100 now they are pushing $200. ebay.us/ALqfzM If I had to buy another vise I would probably go with a tool makers vise like this one. www.shars.com/products/workholding/vise/3-x-4-precision-toolmakers-vise

Curious as to why you didn't start with square stock and machine the round shaft from that.

That is a simple answer...I didn't have any square stock at the time.

Exactly why the lathe is called the king of machine tools, been a subscriber since talking in Mr Pete's videos, Cummins diesel master race haha keep it up you'll get more subscribers and veiws just be patient

Could have sworn that I replied to this comment when you posted it. Not sure what happened there. The lathe is indeed the king. Some say the lathe is the only tool that can make itself, I tend to agree. Cummins diesel for the win!!

Basement Machinist yeah youtube is pretty glitchy lately, and there's so many hours in a day so I wasn't bothered you couldn't reply, keep up the great work and looking forward to see what you do with that little horizontal mill

Is the Barker mill a surface grinder in disguise? G>

Nice technique. Would you kindly tell me the model no and brand of the rotary table and vice? Thanks again for sharing your common sense ideas.

The vise is one I ordered off of ebay. It shipped from India, very quickly I might add. I also use this vise without the swivel base for my lathe milling attachment. www.ebay.com/itm/New-3-75-mm-Jaw-Width-Swivel-Milling-Machine-Vise-Vice-Engineering-Tools/183369054057?hash=item2ab1a5b769:rk:5:pf:0

I also have a low profile mill vice like you and I had to use cap head screws to hold it down. I found that if I used a stud and nut that the nut was too high and prevented me from putting long work piece in the vice. Did u run into this problem also?
@BasementMachinist7 жыл бұрын
I did to an extent. For me, the studs that come with a hold down set were to long or to sort. The nuts were fine and didn't cause problems. I ended up making my own studs that were of the right length.

how'd you make your oil can?
@BasementMachinist5 жыл бұрын
It is a copy of one Mr. Pete did in a video. I wanted a smaller one than he made so I opted to use a tuna can and a 1" copper pipe. kzbin.info/www/bejne/foCkfGdjgMlqh6M
