Your channel is very safety conscious and that’s hugely appreciated. The dust on this is titanium dioxide and is a carcinogen, so appropriate engineering control (ventilation) and PPE (P100 respirators) are critical in your safety. Carcinogen? It's a food additive
@ficolas22 жыл бұрын
Ok just looked it up, titanium dioxide is a carcinogen when the particles are very small. Similar to silicon dioxide (sand), and also somewhat similar to why asbestos is carcinogenic. It's also being removed as a food additive in many countries for this reason. I don't think you'd get many nanoparticles when grinding titanium, but always good to be safe, and inhaling particles of any kind isn't good anyways.

Titanium is supper supper receptive to being oxidized, I wouldn't be surprised if several mm of the anvil were porous or if oxygen diffused into the material a decent amount and changed a lot of the hardness and ductility of the metal also won't be too durable as an anvil, consecutive heats will start building an oxide layer at a lower temperatures than steel. like 500C and the titanium will start oxidizing, so although it looks great i wouldn't recommended it at all

Many years ago I worked as a blacksmith for a company manufacturing stone working tools. Most of our work was done on very old power hammers or by hand. We often made and repaired our own tongs to fit the work piece. We also used tong rings to make it easier to work large pieces. Why do I not see other smiths doing this? This is a source of constant annoyance when I see contestants repeatedly drop their work on Forged in Fire. We made splitting wedges and shims for stone and wood, sledge hammers, heel wedges for Bath iron works for welding steel hull sections(govt work) slag hammers, chisels, digging bars and crowbars up to 13 feet in length and about a dozen types of jack hammer tools. I loved the work and between your videos and Forged in Fire I find it all coming back to me. Thank you! You are truly talented!
