The fashion designer in me wonders if it would have been helpful to use a styrofoam head (or a ball with a little improvised padding would do too) to put the hat on when fixing/gluing the patch onto the hat? If you could get the head/padded ball about the size of the hat, it wouldn‘t flop around too much. Plus: That way the curve of the hat would remain (mostly) in the original position and there would be extra pressure from the back to better combine the surfaces of the patch and hat… Ok, ok… just my musings here… but that would have been my attempt on the attaching process. 😅 All in all that hat patch idea is definitely something I‘m going to try in the future.

I hadn't thought about trying that. Might be worth a try. Definitely give the hat patch a shot...fun project.

I love the way you attached the patch to the hat, but is there a reason you completed the whole patch design before cutting it? I'd have thought that cutting it right at the start of the project would have given you a bit less work with the stamps and border.

You could have for sure. It wasn't that much more work and it gave me the opportunity to see which end of the card I liked best. The end I cut off was a little too dirty for my taste, so I cut it off. 🙂

That shape that you could not recall the name of is an hexagon. This is a six sided geometric form.

When I said it, I was thinking to myself...I know that I know the name of this thing. But it just wouldn't come to mind. LOL

You kept the blue tape on the back when you brushed the glue on? Was that on purpose? Pro/cons leaving tape on vs. removing? Too much pulled up flesh fibers perhaps? Noob here.

Hi there, We checked with Daniel on this and leaving the blue tape or pasteboard on the back of the tooled piece does not cause any issues as far as peeling off, etc. It is up to personal preference but it does take a step out of the process and keeps the back of the leather from getting too fibrous as well. Hope that helps!

Should have used a spade stamp, then beveled. Why free-hand something when there are better premade stamps you could have used? Trying too hard. /shrug Where's Chuck?

Hi there, we actually added the spade stamp after the video was launched so Daniel was just using what he had on hand and it gives the option to show how to make this if someone doesn't have a stamp like this. Chuck is still here and his videos launch every Friday at 11 and his KZbin lives are every other Wednesday at 3 pm Eastern.
