Brackets at the top for extra support, excellent idea. Liked the idea of using the dowels on the bins. Great project build Ken, keep 'em coming. We appreciate it along with your comments and helpful instructions.

Thanks Robert. She's happier now that the finish has been applied and some non slip feet as well. She can actually use the bin instead of just seeing it on KZbin. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Enjoyed your show, however those of us with plastic tools can't totally do your stuff. however I have seen a way to pretty much accomplish the same results. maybe sir you might do a build gearing to people like me that enjoy wood working with simple tools. Again totally enjoy your videos.

There are over 650 episodes of the show on the channel Jonna. Some things are built using power tools and some are built using hand tools so I'm sure that there is something that would interest you. It's hard to produce a show that will please the masses because I really have no idea what tools the majority of my viewers have. Good for you for being able to think of ways to accomplish the same results. That's what it's all about. Taking the project and methods that I demonstrate on the show and making them your own. Thanks for tuning in and for the kind words on the show.

I also bought these plans and was not impressed. The wife wants this built and thus I will use your four part series along with the plans so it will last at least mpre than a couple of years Really enjoyed this build and look forward to more similar ones.Very good work amd easy to understand. Thanks Bob

Thanks for the kind words Bob. I think the most shocking thing about the plans was the use of wood filler. I mean really? Wood filler? I don't even think I own any of that stuff and I don't think I ever will. Good luck with you build. I hope it's successful.

I made the mistake of buying those plans, got them home and took a look at them, and realized the same thing you did, that it wouldn't hold up over time either. I never built it, it got set away for future rethink on how to redesign it to work better. maybe I will use sliding dovetails and regular dovetails or box joints for the carcass and use the mortises and tenons for the face frames like you did. and for the top use some stop sliding dovetails. Or as you did some dowels and glue will always work just as well. As always another great video series.

Thanks for the kind words. I think these plans are just fine for a beginner woodworker who needs a simple project to make with simple joinery and limited tools. For me however, I just wanted more from this bin. Something that would stand up to the abuse that it was going to take. A few modification and I'm happy with the final results. Dig those plans out and start making one. You'll be glad you did.

Very nice project, you know your onions Kenny. LOL I need something like this in my kitchen, we bring veg up from the root cellar in a bucket, invariably the kitchen ends up with buckets of veg everywhere.

The boss wants a blanket chest, kitchen table and a coffee table making. Going to be busy, just had a load of walnut, ash and alder delivered, looks more like a timber merchant than a workshop.

WOW..... it's beautiful / wanna be my husband!!!!!! I sure would be happy with this as well, your wife has excellent taste. My only issue having watched all four segments was how you kept referring to the wood as carcass. I am going to watch this several more times then attempt to make it myself - thanks for all the helpful tips

I wasn't sure about the hinges at first either. I really wanted to have them concealed and mortised into the frame. The construction of the piece just didn't allow for that. To tell the truth though, I don't even notice them. Thanks for tuning in.

Another great build, I really enjoyed all four parts plus it keeps the wife happy. One thing, the top you put on using those brackets, could you have put some dowels in instead? eg 1 in each corner and an extra 1 in the middle at the back so 5 in total, they would be hidden from view? but would dowels and glue be strong enough if you are going to pick it up using the top? Take care my Friend and speak soon. Barry (ENG)
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 7 жыл бұрын
Dowels would be fine Barry except for the fact that I know what is going to happen. I'm sure that someone is going to move this thing at some point in time and use the overhang of the top to lift the bin. It's only a matter of time before the glue and dowel joints fail and there is damaged to the unit. I just felt that I wanted a little more strength for this top. Thanks for tuning in again buddy.

Ken, a great build, enjoyed all four parts. I like using plans, no matter how bad to at least define the overall size and basic construction but like you I find that I end up building it "my way". You surprised me with the use of dowels to further secure the bottom and to attach the face frame, good engineering. Will you add any finish or let it age naturally? Looking forward to your " next woodworking project". Paul / paulsmessyworkshop

Thanks for the kind words Paul. The finish has already been applied. 3 coats of shellac followed by three coats of varnish. It came out really nice and the most important thing is that the Mrs. is happy with it. Thanks for tuning in again this week sir. Always great to hear your comments on the show.

I like the bins. The hinges on the front do not look good. Could you have used wooden dowls at the interior bases of the swing out bins? Then the front would be clean. :)

That's the great thing about our hobby Douglas, for every process, there are many different ways of accomplishing it. I like your dowel idea. Thanks for tuning in to the show and for chiming in with your suggestion for a cleaner looking face frame. It's very much appreciated.

This was another one of your informative and entertaining project builds. As the videos have been released, I've been making CAD drawings so I have something to work from while I'm in my shop. Your instructions were so detailed that there wasn't a single dimension that you omitted. I'm going to build the bin but I'm not a fan of the hinges. Lee Valley has some hidden spring loaded hinge pins that I want to try. I think it will give it a cleaner look and also make it easier to clean. Can you tell me where you purchased the steel mesh material?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words on the show and the project Jim. I'm glad that I was able to provide you with enough detail to make some plans. That's awesome. The metal mesh that I purchase was from a local metal cutting fabricator. I'm sure that if you googled metal fabricators in your area, you would be able to find one. This particular fabricator was located in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada. (I don't know if that helps you or not but if you are local, I will see if I can get you the address)
@JimLambier
@JimLambier 7 жыл бұрын
Kenny, the name of the fabricator would be appreciated and can you tell me if the mesh is a full 1/8" thick. I had tried looking at the big box stores but without any luck. I live in the Hamilton area, so a trip to Etobicoke is possible. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim. I couldn't remember the name so I took a trip out there today just to see what they were called. The name of the company is Ferrier Wire and they are located in the Keele St and St Clair Ave area. Here is a link to their website where you can get the information for the mesh and other products that they carry. I hope this helps. ferrierwire.com/

4 parts, each one is over 20 minutes, that's very long though! I honestly, no hard feelings, skipped the first 3 parts and watched the end of the 4th one!

The show is produced in such a way as to help all levels of woodworking. If skipping through to part 4 is the way that the video series helped you best, then that's the way you should watch it. No hard feelings at all. Thanks for tuning in. I hope you were able to take something positive away from the video.
