For some time now, I've been thinking about building a vegetable bin. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next 3 parts. I really like the way you produce your videos. The length allows us to see many of the processes that go into making the project. I also appreciate that you aren't afraid to talk about some of the mistakes that occur during the build.

Thanks Jim. I do get some criticism on the length of the show but I would rather have the extra length and provide extra information than to shorten the show and leave holes in the build. As far as the mistakes.....I'm only human and to show folks that I am human will hopefully give them confidence that if I can do it, they can do it. Thanks for the kind words on the show.

You're very welcome once again Barbara. If you keep on complimenting me like this, my head is going to swell and I will never get it into the shop again because it won't fit through the door. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Thanks for tuning in.

Thanks for the kind words Chad. I used a set of plans for this build but I have to say that I didn't follow them. I only used them for a guideline and then added my own joinery as well as modified the build from 2 bins and a cupboard, to 3 bins. If you are interested, you can find the plans here. www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=44546&cat=1,46158,44554

Believe it or not Brian, I got those at Home Depot quite a few years ago for a fairly cheap price. I think they were about $5 each at the time. Not sure what they are now but they have come in handy many, many times in the shop. Thanks for the kind words on the show and I hope that you enjoy the rest of the series.

I was always told that you weren't supposed to store potatoes and onions together because the onions off-gas and that would make the potatoes go bad sooner. Is this just a "Wive's Tale"?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 4 ай бұрын
I can't say for certain if it is a "wive's tale" or not but I have kept potatoes in one bin and onions in another since the day this project was finished and I have never had an issue. I hope that helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Ronna Keil Thanks for the kind words. I agree that there is a fair bit of talking in my show but you must realize that my show is a learning tool for those who are trying to improve their woodworking skills and those who are looking for an on line teacher. While a lot of the talking may not be needed for more experienced woodworkers, the newcomers to the hobby appreciate the extra commentary and teachings. Thanks for your comment. I appreciate your honesty and the fact that you took the time to post on the show. Thanks for tuning in.

I am confused why you just didn't make it the size of thee boards you had on hand?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 5 жыл бұрын
The boards I had on hand would have made it a pretty skinny vegetable bin Alaskankare and we were following the plans which called for much wider boards. Sometimes, some lamination is required to achieve the needed widths. I hope this clarifies it for you. In woodworking, there are a million different ways to make the same thing and as long as the method you choose is safe, then the method isn't necessarily wrong. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Nice one Ken, looking good so far, and what are the odds of some swearing and shouting off camera with those tight fits ha ha. I like longer videos but have you thought of splitting them in half a and b style to keep the riffraff happy? And it could potentially double your monthly views.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 7 жыл бұрын
I've never really considered splitting the videos Adrian. I have a hard enough time finding the time to edit one video, let alone two. Between my regular job, my hobbies (there are several of them) my cardiac rehab and my woodworking, I just wouldn't have the time to do even more editing. I see what you are saying about getting more views but I'm not too concerned about the views. I don't monetize the channel so I don't make a dime off of it so views aren't important to me. My main concern is making a video that will be helpful to those who wish to watch it, regardless of its length. I wouldn't necessarily call those who don't like the longer videos "riffraff". Maybe they are just busy people like me and don't necessarily have to time to sit down to a 30 minute youtube video. Thanks for the suggestion though and the support on the show's length. It's appreciated.

Does it matter what size biscuits you use?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 7 жыл бұрын
In this case, no. The biscuits are basically used to align the parts for glue up and while they do add some structural integrity, the size should not matter at all. I hope this helps you out Brian. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

Ken, what did you use to laminate your wood? Could i use a polyurethane finish?
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, good to hear from you. To laminate the boards for this project, I used biscuits (although dowels would work as well) and just regular wood glue. In my case, it was Titebond I but any normal yellow carpenters glue would work just fine. As for the finish, yes you could use polyurethane and it would be just fine. Once the finish it dry, it is non toxic and it would be perfect to protect the wood from any moisture that might still be in the fruits or vegetables that you place in this bin. I hope this helps.
@brianmerrick5664
@brianmerrick5664 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Ken that is great information for me, so ill get a non toxic polyurethane. Thanks for your help.
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 7 жыл бұрын
You might have a hard time finding a non toxic polyurethane. What I meant is, although polyurethane is toxic, it is only toxic in its liquid form and once it has completely cured, it becomes non toxic simply due to the fact that you can no longer ingest it.

People learn in all different forms Doyce. Some are strictly a visual form where they only want to see pictures or video demonstrations. Others learn by verbal explanation without the visual aspect and yet there are those that learn using both visual and verbal in unison. I try to gear my show to everyone's learning technique and although I have had many people call me out and say that I talk too much, I've had way more people thank me for explaining it in a way that they could relate to and understand. I'm sorry the channel didn't offer you what you were looking for but I thank you for tuning in anyway.
