This is pretty interesting. I hadn't thought about not attaching the two pieces of wood, which as you said gives you an extra wedge. Have you considered using a different more flexible wood for the shaft, such as ash? Also I have seen here on KZbin a branch with a crook used as a holdfast. I reckon that this was the original style of holdfast and wood selection is probably critical, though the Romans used forged iron ones. I find the idea of wooden, either your style or crooks, very appealing indeed. Many thanks for your contribution and all the best from bonnie Scotland. 👍

This is really cool. I’d probs start with an arm (in front of the post) and a post (below the arm) in ballpark lengths to a metal Holdfast and then go from there. Either way, great video!
