No particular reason, just don't happen to own one yet, but I have used them and they seem to work fine. I do know that some of the angles I shoot at, my hands seem close to the blade, but in fact they are a safe distance. I never run wood if I even think it might be unsafe.

Great project. I made it, and it turned out beautifully. I took a commentor’s suggestion and cut strips for the bottom using the bits left over after cutting the side pieces. It looks “finished”. My only problem was properly installing the hinges, that was a real challenge. Thanks again for the great project.

Colin, Thanks for sharing this sweet little wine box. After doing a few, do you think some type of latch is needed? Just curious because I'd like to make a few but don't want to take the chance of it opening when carried and having a mess. Thanks again!
@knecht10511 жыл бұрын
Yes, a latch would really add this project. I was going make a nice wooden one but it would make the vid too long. Would love to see some some pics of yours with the latch :)
@geedubb200511 жыл бұрын
ok, I'll roll it around in my brain a little and see if I can knock something out. I have to lay some tile over the next few days, but once I heal from that I'll try one.
@geedubb200511 жыл бұрын
you probably think I'm an armchair quarter back but I'm really not. I do want to make something similar. The grape and wine business is really growing in my valley (Mesilla, NM) and you can even check my website at 5967traders.com. I'll get back with you when I hammer one out. I just don't know how to send you the pictures and I'm a computer dummy and not into posting videos yet. Thanks!

the inside of the top looks to as if it's a solid piece of wood...could you explain please??
@knecht10511 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee, the inside is the same and the outside, but what might make the difference is that because all the strips are tight together on the inside of the curve, they might look more like one piece. I think that's what you and your sharp eyes are seeing :) Thanks for commenting Colin
@jlgoins6411 жыл бұрын

I just found this video. Very nice design. But as others have mentioned the lack of detail on the bottom is a shame. Also the lack of a latch. If you didn't want a latch you should have gone without hinges. Last: try eliminating the words "actual" and "actually". They do nothing for the description.

Band saw a dusty tool? WTF are you talking about? It's one of the least dusty tools anyone might have in their shop. The blade is 3/32 or at most 1/8. I'm not saying this is not a neat project, but check the dustbin on your bandsaw compared to your table saw at the end of equal cuts. Bandsaws make 1/2 the dust.
@knecht10510 жыл бұрын
HA HA HA ... better get on board dude!! ... bandsaws ARE one of the dustiest tools in the shop, even worse, they create all the fine dust which is even worse. Check it out !!
@mikejancz10 жыл бұрын
WoodWorkWeb They draw all the dust straight down though, away from your face. Bandsaws are the easiest stationary tool to set up dust collection for. Sneezing at the table saw is a regular occurrence, at the bandsaw, not so much...
@nb1223711 жыл бұрын
it needs a lock so it wont open by it self
@bpk77khan218 жыл бұрын
That was a poor quality finish on the bottom, why did you not cut the strips to the full length and width and mitre the corners.....some sort of clasp on the closure would have been a good idea.
