Making a Yorkshire Flower button / New ideas with Yorkshire Buttons - easy tactile button tutorial

In this video, I am going to show you how to make a different type of button using our original Yorkshire Button looms. These are easy fabric buttons, and you can add as much or as little extra stitching and embellishments as you wish! They are perfect for bags and cushions, and could be made really small with finer threads and fabrics for a pretty garment.

These are lovely Gina; my efforts are a bit "rustic" shall we say! I would definitely buy a booklet with instructions on how to do the decorative stitches at the end, because I find those things very difficult - even how to start off and finish threads...(Jenni)

We make the old buttons on wooden plates or metal rings, which are wrapped and embroidered with thread until the height is created. So you get hard buttons that also go through buttonholes for clothing. Linen thread is used for this. A very hard shiny thread that will not rub off.

Yes, I make buttons using all of those techniques, I am a little bit obsessed with button making and the study of the techniques! These are a fun modern way of making buttons. You'll find some videos of other types here on my channel and lots of other button making items over on my website.

I love this.But…. How secure are the ends?Won’t they come loose over time?

I make sure that the loops are stitched down, and any filling stitches worked on the loom are secured by securing the spokes. I also stitch back and forth through the stuffing to finish before trimming the working thread. This creates a path that the thread is unlikely to come away from. I'm used to doing this, so feel confident not knotting. However, you could knot the thread under the top and then work the thread through the fabric to hide the end.
