Hey man, great video as always. Just letting you know that I think you forgot the output buffer on the trainstations. Irregular bauxite flow is pretty bad, as it leads to water backing up and stopping the whole system.

Yeah, mostly due to a lack of pressure modelled into the physics. With pressure water can flow upwards quite easily - but in Satisfactory we have to work around that. Takes getting used to - and even then it still throws me off from time to time.

I'm surprised you don't know about pipe junction priorities, and how it would simplify your water set up for the refineries, while also making sure water never backs up. If you put a vertical pipe junction before the input of the sloppy alumina refinery, run the middle to the refinery, run water from extractors to the top input, and the excess water from the alu scrap refinery to the bottom input, the junction will always pull all the water it can from the bottom, then from the top. This means that the extractors only supplement the water supply from the scrap recipe, so it can never back up; you can literally dump as much water as you like into the top of the junction and it will always exhaust the bottom input first.

I build, move on, go back and redo things so often. And not a chance I could build factory and fill it up. I have to build production first and aesthetics after. This game has become a comfort to life but it's also cursed me to think about production lines even in my sleep.

In my experience, the exit valve needs to be set to max to allow for variation in flow. If you limit it to the exact flow, it’ll back up bc pipes tend to produce an average and not a continuous amount, so when it does a burst above the valve limit, it’ll back up slightly, and will add up over time. Also, you may as well belt it as if you had mk6 belts, but just underclock things for now to match the belt output until they can be upgraded.

With a mk2 blueprint, you can make a single blue print that eats water, coal, and bauxite and spits out AL ingots. Not sure it would be more efficient at this scale, but it saves a ton of time on a smaller project.

For those that are looking for easier options this can be done much more simply if you're OK with relying on item backup. For the refineries, set up the six refineries next to each other with each the opposite direction, e.g. north-south-north-south-north-south, and set each alternating one to sloppy alumina and normal scrap, such that the water output from the scrap is next to the water input for the sloppy alumina. Connect all water pipe output/inputs together with big pipe network between all refineries, connect the output of each sloppy alumina to the input of aluminum scrap (this can be one output to one input), and hook up a line of bauxite and a line of coal to the appropriate inputs. With this setup you can put as much input water as you want into the water side and the refineries making scrap will always get prioritized by the game to be emptied first. Don't ask me why this works, just believe in Snutt. I haven't tried this with the input water being shared with other setups as well, but it would probably still work. For balancing belts with more items than your one conveyor can carry (and especially if the input belts have different numbers of materials or the numbers don't split nicely with splitters), industrial storage boxes are your best friend. Industrial containers will take up to 2 belts worth of items at full speed and output up to 2 belts at full speed. However it will only do this when there is more than one item in the container so if it's empty and not getting items at full speed on both belts it will favor one, which is fine because that one will eventually fill up its machines and only take what it needs after that. For more belts, set up 4 containers, 2 in front of 2, and belt up to 4 belts into the inputs, then set up the outputs so that one belt from each container goes into the one in front of it, and one goes into the one in front and to the side of it. Again this may require waiting for some belts to become full but it will eventually balance if you have input >= output. You can do this with splitters and mergers too but I've found this takes up less room and has the advantage of letting you pre-fill with items to fill out the belts faster.

This massive redo is why I highly recommend future planning when building out factories. Even if you are only on 240 or 480 belts, if you don't want to rip up the whole setup as you progress build it out as if you had Mk6 belts and Mk 3 miners. If a 1200 line can support X machines, build that many, use smart splitters set to overflow and you have a stacked line that resources will only flow to the number of machines the current belt speed setup can support. A simple belt upgrade expands it. Outputs are treated much the same, only with temp divides to account for current belt speed incase the production max's out the belts you have. I Did this when making quickwire, 480 belts... 6000 quickwire spread across 13 of them until I could upgrade and then these lines were merged with the placement of a single belt. Upgrade of belts also doubled the production as the belts could handle more coming in and so it overflowed to more machines. No need to build anything but replace and add a few belts. Fluids are a set it and forget it kind of thing. Most of my early production before 600 pipes will forever remain at 300, if they work fine as is there's zero point to 'merge' two or so setups just because you got 600 pipes. Example you have an overclocked extractor providing 280 water to 5 machines and you have several setups of it... it works fine with 300 pipes. Just because you get 600 pipes there's zero reason to waste the resources to upgrade it all just to 'merge' two setups together. If it's still doing the same thing it's a pointless change just to have an extra pipe join the two.

As it currently stands you will have throughput issues with the belts coming from the trains. When trains stop at a station, the stations inputs and outputs become locked. So in reality you have 780 i/m - the time station is locked per train cycle. To solve this you have to set up a large bin next to every train station and unload into it with both belts (so the station is emptied out faster into the bin, resulting in it being empty when the train comes back). Then from the bin you can just move that one belt that you already have

By using Sommersloops in the refinerys with the sloppy recepie you can produce alot of "free" water, feeding back (so much that you dont need to input any new water from waterextractors once all the pipes are filled) and to use for pure ingot recepies/steamed sheets and so on. Reduced the amount of waterextractors by alot in my playtrough...plus you get double the aluminuminum-solution to make scraps to smelt down.

I usually create a 4m platform for an industrial water tank to sit on, and from the pump I run the pipe as parallel as possible, only adding pumps and calculating the required amount to get to the storage tank. Sometimes, just doesn't matter how far I go, I only need about 1-2 pumps at key points. I can have 1 tank feeding 19 coal factories before I have to consider a second line or under clocking. Another hidden mechanic, hydro hammer is a thing in this game. You just don't get to hear the knock. It happens when you do what I do, which is textbook, then instead of waiting for your tank to fill, you just flip everything on and walk away. Your machines will get starved of water, and the tank will not fill, at the same time the pumps will shut on and off... why's that? The water is sloshing back and forth. There's too much empty space, and the machines don't get filled at the same rate. I think there's a way to balance pipes, but I haven't cracked phase 4 yet, and I don't like spoilers. Use valves, laminate the flow. You can prevent the sloshing by ensuring, for example, a 600m3 pip carrying 480m3 of water, carries only 480m3 of water to the tank, creating a consistent pressure and inevitably eliminating the water hammer taking your stuff offline.

I have a question dear Kibitz. Are you using any modular factory building for any part (like plastic etc). Or using only one single megafactory building for all of them? “Just put a miner/extractor for every single mining spot and line the belts to the stations, carry them all to one single building. Split them to the smelters->constructors--> assemblers ……. Ta daa, you have rubber 🏆 “ is that what you did? Cuz I want to do this and not sure if this will work

for your load balancing (19:58), in your example you had 4 240 belts and wanted 360; why not combine 2 of these into 480 with a mk4 belt, then split it into a mk4 and a mk 2 belt so you get 360 and 120, then maybe combine the 2 120 belts into 240 (if that helps later, it might help more if you keep them as 120)? in fact, you could combine them with the excess 120 from your 1200 belt

Why do you need load balancing when you can use smart splitters and set one output to overflow? Using regular splitters for 3 machines from one side will yield uneven loading. From the 720 belt the first machine gets 360 and the other 2 get the other 360. Overflow setup is superior in many applications.
