My favorite memory of my childhood was mama’s endless rows of soup mixture in her mason/ball jars. She always did tomatoes, corm and okra as her base. However she occasionally threw in green beans purple hull peas and butter beans or whatever she had a little of after their processing in as well. She would use stew meat or leftover roast or hamburger and pop open a jar and just add the kitchen sink and cook up buttermilk cornbread to go with the best vegetable beef soup in the country. She had rows and rows of canned veggies and filled the freezer with silver queen and okra. She passed last October at 91 years. She had dementia and loved to sit and go through all her blue ribbons she won over the years at the county fair. It’s so much hard work that those who have never done it don’t have a clue how valuable home canned, fermented and frozen foods are. Enjoy your bounty!

You remind me so much of my mom. She was a natural mother, she had 12 children. She could make dinner out of practically nothing. She literally memorized everything and meal planned on a moments notice. She was always wearing an apron, working diligently in the kitchen. I enjoy watching very much. Be blessed.

My friend has a pear tree that’s been extremely fruitful 🤪 this year. She’s harvested at least 700 pears. She’s been canning them like crazy and I’ve been able to get in on some of the action. Thus far we’ve done pears, various flavors of pear sauce, pear butter, and jams (those are the only ones we’ve added sugar to!). So so fun! It’s been my first time canning things and it’s been great!

I have a solution I have been using for years, get yourself an antique coffee mill and grind pepper corns. Be sure and make sure the little drawer of the coffee mill is closed before you start grinding the pepper corns. It will fill the drawer. I use a little antique spoon that I keep in the little drawer that has holes in it and that way you can kinda control how much you put on anything.😊

You are honestly such an inspiration - - when I was that far along in my pregnancy, I really only wanted to rest.... but, look at you! You never stop moving! Your energy inspires me & I am positive many more women.. By the way, I think it'd be fun to have a vlog about how you learned to cook..... what your life was like growing up & was it your mom that taught you all you know or did you create your own passion with cooking? Also, I've written this before, but I'm a mom, as well, and one of my "happy zen times" is folding just washed laundry and watching something that makes me feel content, peaceful & cozy...... many times, I pick your vlogs. : ) They always make me want to bake, create a beautiful bouquet, gussy up my home & just feel happy about being the mom that I am. Love your sweet & wholesome vlogs... Have a beautiful wknd!

All I got to say is...be glad you have helpful girls at the beginning of the family!!! My mom had three!!! This is how she survived six kids (9 and a half years), the family business of primitive antiques and decorating, and household chores!!! Buddy...the girls helped so much!!! The boys helped with physical work of huge yard, restoring and lifting heavy antiques,!!! However, we did not do gardening!!! God bless your healthy meals and great constitution given to your kids' immune systems!!!!

When I have lots of ripe garden tomatoes I cut them into halves or quarters depending how big they are and place them cut side up on a parchment paper lined pan. The I add quartered onions, peppers, and a whole head of garlic with the top cut off, cut side down. Roast everything in the oven until they are soft and the tomatoes are much less juicy. When cool enough to handle, squeeze out the cloves of roasted garlic and add to a food processor or blender along with the rest of the roasted veggies and process until smooth. You won’t even know the tomato skins are in there because they soften up while roasting. Season to taste with salt. This tomato sauce is so good with the rich sweetness of the roasted veggies and it’s easy to make.

I got ten pounds of crabapples from my cousins tree for jelly, I am making rhubarb ginger jam, I made pickled jalapeños, chow chow, bread and butter pickles, tomato sauce, dried herbs, frozen pesto, green tomato dills, and I will be canning potatoes in another week from my potato patch, salsa, carmelized onions, and blackberry jelly from my bushes out back. I loved this video. So homey.❤️

I have taken up canning! I have canned broths, pinto beans, black beans and green beans! Also I am canning up marinara sauce ! I picked up 3 pressure canners at thrift stores, the latest an all American 915 for 12 dollars. Sent away for new parts and received the new parts at about 75 dollars ! Also bought a presto 23 quart and a mirror pressure canner! This year I invested in a steamer juicer and have made about 2 gallons of Concord grape juice , which I canned up . Also back ordered a 921 all American pressure canner! Since lids are hard to come by, I put in a order for tattler lids, you can use them over again many times! Plus I just purchased a water bath canner that only uses very little water, I haven’t used as yet ! Next week I will start canning a lot of my freezer meats, and then I will buy more meat to replace what I canned up . I love that I am canning up my garden produce and busy hands are a balm to me right now with what is going on in this difficult times! God bless. You all !

I got a deal on eggplant from the FFA for 25 cents each. I had 3 preparations for the 20 I bought. Cut super thin and dehydrated for soups and pasta dishes later/ cooked about half done or so with onion, garlic, oregano, tomato, mushroom for Italian later (frozen)/ and cubed and cooked with onion, cabbage, ginger, carrot, celery, garlic, and mushroom for asian later (frozen) My granny told me years ago and I swear its true, that putting up food is not about having huge batches of stuff to work up but making sure you don't waste anything. If you have a dozen windfall apples, peel and process them to freeze or make a dab of applesauce.

I love a good buy like that and then preserving it! Generations ago ppl never wasted anything if they could help it … there is so much waste in the world these days .. I hate how our major appliances etc seem to be getting more disposable.. because back in the day stoves and fridges ,freezers ,washing machines ,TVs etc lasted much longer back then not as much these days unfortunately…I was taught to take care of my things but I see so many ppl that don’t and it’s such a waste … I’m so thankful for my good raising .. living on a farm being around my hard working Grandparents and my whole family being Christians .. you just can’t do any better than living in that kind of family , hard working , good fresh homegrown food , good morals and a strong belief in God !

I am learning that all homesteaders ferment most of their foods. I can't handle the smell of vinegar, much less the taste. I had a student from south Korea stay with us for a few weeks. When she opened a jar of kimchi, I almost threw up. So though it's supposed to be healthy for you, I'll have to resign my self to being unhealthy. I can't do vinegar or rotten cabbage. You do an amazing job keeping yourself and your family healthy. You're a blessing to all!

I’m doing so much tomato sauce! My garden combined with the CSA veggies I get each week. It’s a lot of work now, but I’ll be so happy to have this in the dead of our Ontario winter!! Thank you for sharing🥰
