Julie I have got to ask you about using aloe vera juice in soap. Do you always put the lye in and then put it in the fridge? Does is spead up trace any when using it? What does it do for lather? Ive only used it once.....and well....it wasn't a pretty sight! Any tips and tricks you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
@OpheliasSoapery5 жыл бұрын
Carol Woolsey I always put my lye solution in the freezer after I make it to get it to the same temp as my oils (room temp) it doesn’t speed up trace for me. The soap did heat up a little more than usual when I was gelling it. I always gel my soaps and they get up to 125° the aloe soap got up to 140° so I took the lid off and it cooled down.

Beautiful soap. I love your videos. When using Aloe Vera Juice should you always put it in the freezer after adding the lye? Also, do you mix it well to make sure all the lye is dissolved before putting in freezer?

I never put it in the freezer. I use it as you would water. :)

I just realized I did not use the heat transfer method with this soap 😂. Yes make sure all the lye is dissolved before letting the lye water cool. You don’t have to add it to the freezer. You can prep it earlier in the day or the night before too. :)

Hi I'm a newbie. Would you please share the formula with calculating how much ingredients needed to fill my mold.? Thanks in advance
@CarolinaGirlCreationZ2 жыл бұрын
Do you have this recipe available for purchase by chance? I bought the same Aloe Vera but I am a bit nervous about using it. I am a brand new soap maker so I would love to support KZbinrs by buying their recipes so I can learn from them. Does this soap turn out slimy in the shower? I bought some soap before I started making my own from an Etsy shop owner and it was sooooo slimy with no bubbles and all I could think was that maybe it was mostly aloe. I'd love to make one that is nourishing but also bubbly, if possible. Beautiful soap as always.
@OpheliasSoapery2 жыл бұрын
Get a 1 pound mold and test it out. If I could give any advice to new soap makers is to start small. Get a 1 pound mold and test, test, test. And also learn how to use a soap calculator :) I replace all my water with the aloe Vera juice. No sliminess.

TFS I have only attempted hot process soap...what are the advantages/disadvantages of using equal amounts of liquid and lye? Does this work with hot process soap also?🧐🤔
@OpheliasSoapery5 жыл бұрын
D K The benefits of using 50/50 water/lye I would think would be less water that needs to be evaporated out and it will be harder bars. The disadvantages for me have been it sets up way to fast! Lol I’ve never done hot Process so I’m not sure :(

can someone tell me why the shimmer from the mica always disappear when she adds the lyewater solution? always been wondering

I think it has to do with the fact that it has to be emulsified so the the shimmer becomes clouded
@OpheliasSoapery5 жыл бұрын

@splendidgracefarms46495 жыл бұрын
I could be wrong but I think it has something to do with the t.d. that was added in the lye water. I’ve noticed when I add t.d. to my shimmery micas it dulls the shimmer but they are fine when there is non used. Just a thought/observation. 😊

It’s the Epica brand. But it’s way too powerful for me. You have to be careful or your batter will thicken up too fast. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F262822023712 21.66% is what I do (or 38% lye concentration)

When I tried aloe vera juice my soap got hot in the mold. Is that why you chill it? Also how many ounces does that mold hold?
@OpheliasSoapery5 жыл бұрын
Joyce Swain I put it in the freezer to just get it to room temp like my oils. It did get a little bit hotter than usual. Usually my soap will heat up to 125° this one heated up to 140° but it didn’t overheat or crack thankfully! It will hold up to 120oz but I use 115oz so I can put the lid on it and the batter not touch the lid.
