Just re-watched and if you take shrink to fit tubing on the wire up behind the metal connector to butt up against the connector it stiffens the wire and makes it easier to snap in and acts as strain relief. (Saw this on SA's channel) @@HR4NT

Good video, currently switching everything to Powerpoles, when I started I tried using my regular crimper, yep, big mistake, ordered the Powerpole crimper and life is good

Great video! One more thing you can do is add a Farrel on the end that screws into the charge controller and it will keep the wires from breaking off when smashed. Just a suggestion.

I like it that you struggled a bit with inserting the wires into the power pole. As someone who is new to putting things together like this it makes me feel better to see someone else having issues instead of the picture perfect builds you see a lot of you tubers do!

My daughter is laughing at me as I type this, but as silly as it sounds, your video changed my life! Thanks, but ,,, you should take better care to make sure ALL of the wire strands are inside the connector before crimping. Both of your connectors had a one or more strands hanging out of the connector. This carries lots of risks (e.g. shorting, and reduction in current carrying capability of the cable), and is also just sloppy work. I mention this only because some people might be viewing this in order to learn how to use these connectors, and they should know how to properly do it.

Are they some easy ways to get the connectors out and the housings detached? A video would be good. They hurt a lot by hand, specially with my fibro. 😞

I have not found a suitable way to detach the inner part to remove it form the housing without a pick and a lot of swearing...LOL I usually buy a kit that has a bunch of extras so in the event I damage or screw up one, I just pitch it out and make a new one. I did the same thing off camera. The wire I bought was so flimsy (not in quality, just very pliable) it made it hard to do. The previous one I made was super simple. Thanks for the comment!! 73!!!

With additional experience, you will be able to insert the terminals into the connector without so much difficulty.

I have to say we have much in common, I too am an old guy who is a new ham, I too had a tough time getting power poles to cooperate. Where we differ is I am not bold enough to make my mistakes publicly. There are so many swamp rats who seem to do nothing but critique youtube videos. Have you tried a wolf river coil? I'm liking what I see about them.

The previous wires I made that were both black, those snapped in with no issue...these wires I used in the video were liker wet noodles. Someone suggested a tool that helps insert them, but I didn't even think that was needed until the video. As far as making mistakes on video...hey I am only human. Haters are gonna hate and that is OK. No one is perfect and I know that it will happen to someone else down the road. It was irritating that I was trying to get them to cooperate in the video and thought, "ok, this will be a 10 minute video..." Yeah...NO! LOL I have read about an considered Wolf River Coils. When I bought the MPAS it was between the two and I ended up with the MPAS only because it seemed like less work to tune the antenna as opposed to WRC with that sliding thing to tune to different bands and so on. WRC are definitely cheaper and possibly more readily available. Thanks for watching as always! 73!

I was going to add this same comment -- seeing things only done the right way doesn't help much when you make a mistake or aren't really sure which is the right way to begin with. One more bit of info for folks new to the Power Poles, is that the crimp bits come in 15, 30 and 45A sizes but they all use the same plastic plug pieces. Trying to get the skinny wires that use 15A crimps into the plastic pieces requires something like those needle nose pliers, or a soundproof room where you can say very bad words very loudly without offending anyone...

yep, however then you have to orientate the ends wnem you crimp so they go in the same way. worth the extra step for sure.

I was trying to find something like that, however these wires are rated for 200 degrees Celsius and have a thicker silicone shielding on them. Sourcing stuff these days is becoming a real hunt. Half of the stores locally don't carry as much stuff as they did a year ago. I appreciate the comment and your support! 73!

Actually, until you just mentioned that...I didn't know there was a tool for that. The first set I made went in with no issues, however the wire was a lot stiffer than the wires I used in this video. I've gotten away from crimping my power pole connectors. I solder them in place. In theory I can reuse them, but I haven't done that yet. I almost always have to use small needle nose pliers to get them inserted properly.
