You can greatly reduce algae buildup in the return by painting the exterior around the return black. No light will greatly reduce/ eliminate the algae buildup in that section until your plants mature enough to outcompete the algae for nutrient.

This is a beautiful decoration. Please note, that these things are not suitable for any fish or creatures. Always thoroughly research requirements for any living creatures you intend to get.

Yeah recently I’ve been looking at housing a beta and want something similar. You technically can do this (obviously not with the materials he’s using) with safe alternatives. And with the proper consideration for the fish you want to keep. I plan to get a gentle drip affect with my tank’s water pump and have chosen rocks that won’t raise the PH. And to protect her body, separate the rock formations so she can’t brush up against it. Definitely do your research on every single thing you put into that tank and how it’ll affect your fish, your plants, and other tank mates :D

I made my own i wish i could post pics! I watched your videos since january and always wanted to make my own. It took atleast 30 hours to get it all together and get all the materials; rocks, pebblestone, sand, crushstone, moss, caulking, glass(i built my own from 2 broken salvaged tanks) , the soil, filter parts, the pvc board, driftwood, all the plants to put in with an air pump and a heater. Im about 100$ in because i retrieved most of the materials myself around where i live. Was very helpful. If youd like to see please let me know and i will make an effort to make sure you see it!
