Very cool. I dig it. I'd probably want to chunk-up the shaft diameter, and maybe add some minor tapers to get more side-to-side articulation. Your kiddo break one yet?

I made seven for his party, and two were redwood. The redwood is super soft, and the madness of a bunch of 6 year old boys quickly broke one. The other ones have been holding up so far (cherry, which is much harder), but I did some test twist-breaking on a sample and they can still be broken. My first tests allowed 360 degrees of movement...which would prevent breakage from force via twisting, but it didn't feel "real" to have the joints do that, so I limited the movement with an oval-shaped ball. Pulling length-wise can't be broken; the wood is super strong in that direction with-the-grain. I think the joints will last as long as the PLA 3d printed toys. So yeah! I think v2 should be a thicker shaft, and a scale pattern on top. I just ran out of time!

Definitely! I've got a new bowl concept coming out soon (dragon scales) - design in Rhino but CAM in Fusion. Lately I've been upgrading my CNC controller.

Oh, I fully agree! I wish I would have used inches as a child; at this point it is harder for me to switch to metric. The system is also highly against us here: if you go to the hardware store there will be a huge assortment of "standard" size bolts/nuts, but very few metric, and the metric cost twice as much. Totally stupid system.
